Landmannalaugar

Landmannalaugar

4.9
9 reviews
Landmannalaugar is a majestic area in the southern highlands of Iceland's Fjallabak Nature Reserve, world-famous for its colorful rhyolite hills. The hills' vivid tones come from the oxidation and deposition of different minerals in the rhyolite—iron produces red and yellow, sulfur brings a buttery yellow, and copper minerals create green—giving the mountains a rare natural palette. The area also contains natural geothermal hot springs and vast black lava fields, where cold and heat, color and barrenness intertwine. It is also the starting point of Iceland's famous hiking route Lava Road and a major hub for highland travelers.Rangarthing ytra · 29.5km from downtown
Laugavegur

Laugavegur

3.4
Laugavegur is the most renowned multi-day hiking trail in Iceland, named by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful hiking routes in the world. The entire route is approx. 55 km, starting from the colorful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar hot springs, passing through black deserts, glacial canyons, geothermal wetlands, and volcanic peaks, and ending at the lush birch forest valley of Þórsmörk. It usually takes 3–4 days to complete. The natural landscape along the way changes dramatically, from orange-red rhyolite hills to basalt deserts, and from exposed glacial tongues to emerald green meadows, with each segment presenting a completely different geological landscape that is stunning. The route features multiple mountain huts for lodging, which must be booked in advance. It is only open from late June–early September each year after the snow melts, and requires a specialized vehicle to access, making it the ultimate hiking experience for challenging the Icelandic highland wilderness.Rangarthing ytra · 28.4km from downtown

Seljalandsfoss

93 reviews
Seljalandsfoss has a drop of approx. 60m, with water sourced from glacial meltwater. The waterfall's unique feature is a natural recessed path at the base of the cliff, where visitors can walk behind the water curtain to experience the roar of the cascading water and the surrounding mist up close. Looking out from behind the curtain, the view of the distant fields and horizon through the splashing water offers a unique and picturesque perspective, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. Sunset is an ideal time to capture the view from behind the curtain, as the warm light of the setting sun shines through the water from the west, creating exceptionally rich layers of light and shadow. When walking along the path, be mindful of the slippery rocks underfoot. The dense mist can also wet your clothing and electronic devices, so it is necessary to prepare waterproof gear in advance.Rangarthing eystra · 45.6km from Rangarthing ytra

As one of the must-see attractions in Iceland, the Golden Falls have a reason to do their part. The river flows straight down from a height of 32 meters and is divided into two levels. From a distance, it looks like two rainbows rushing along the Great Rift Valley. The scene is very spectacular. After a heavy rain, you can also see a large rainbow across the waterfall. A monument was erected next to the waterfall in memory of a civilian woman.Hrunamannahreppur · 42.3km from Rangarthing ytra

Golden Circleis a classic, iconic tourist route in Iceland that connects three natural and historical landmarks northeast of Reykjavik into a small loop that most travelers can complete in one day. Thingvellir National Park is situated on the rift valley at the boundary of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, serving as both the site of Iceland's ancient parliament and a place where you can walk along trails between the fissures to intuitively experience the geological wonder of the two plates slowly drifting apart; in the Haukadalur geothermal valley, Geysir is the source of the English word "geyser," while its neighbor, Strokkur, is more active today, sending scalding columns of water into the air every few minutes; and Gullfoss waterfall concludes the itinerary with its majestic two-tiered cascade and canyon scenery. Each of the three stops offers something unique, allowing you to take in geology, geothermal activity, and water features all in one day, making it the perfect introductory route for experiencing the essence of Iceland's nature and history.Blaskogabyggd · 46.1km from Rangarthing ytra

The Blue Lagoon is located in Grindavik on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland. It is a geothermal hot spring formed by volcanic lava. The water temperature is about 37-39 degrees Celsius. The lake water is rich in minerals such as silicon and sulfur, making it appear faint blue. Hot spring experience The Blue Lagoon has now become a symbol of Iceland. Many people who come to Iceland will choose to take a good bath here. Volcanic mud mask Don't forget to apply some silica mud on your face as a mask when taking a hot spring bath. The silica mud here is volcanic mud, which contains many minerals. Sauna In addition, you can also go to the sauna on the shore to steam for a while, and then come out to continue soaking. If it snows, it feels very unusual to immerse your body in warm water and look up at the white snow flying all over the sky.Iceland · Grindavik

Skógafoss

Skógafoss is located on the south coast of Iceland. The Skógá River cascades down from the top of a cliff approx. 60 m high and 25 m wide, forming an almost continuous curtain of water. This cliff is a remnant of Iceland's ancient coastline—as the coastline has retreated southward over thousands of years, the former coastal cliff was left inland, and the waterfall now plunges directly from the edge of this cliff. The area in front of the waterfall is filled with mist year-round, and on sunny days, you can often see a single or even a double rainbow; if you walk to the base of the waterfall, you will get soaked by the mist. On the east side of the waterfall, there is a zigzagging staircase trail leading to the top of the cliff, where you can overlook the entire waterfall and the distant south coast plains. There is also an ancient Norse legend about this waterfall: it is said that in the early days, someone hid a chest of gold treasure behind the waterfall. After rumors of the treasure spread, treasure hunters came in an endless stream, and later, someone actually found the ring of the chest here. This ring is now kept in the nearby Skógar Museum, and the legend of the treasure has been passed down to this day, becoming part of the waterfall's unique cultural charm.Rangarthing eystra · 52.7km from Rangarthing ytra
Geysir

Geysir

Geysiris located in the Haukadalur geothermal valley in southwestern Iceland and is an important stop on the Golden Circle route. The English word "geyser" originates from the Great Geysir here. Historically, the Great Geysir has erupted with boiling water columns reaching tens of meters high, but nowadays it is mostly quiet and dormant, rarely erupting. The real star is Strokkur, located just a short distance to the south, which erupts every few to 10 minutes. The azure water first churns in the center of the vent, forming a blue bubble, and in the next second, it bursts open with a roar, sending a water column shooting into the air. It usually reaches over 10 m high, and sometimes erupts 2 or 3 times in succession. The entire eruption lasts only a few seconds, so when you see the water surface bubble up, hold your breath and raise your camera. If you stand here patiently for a while, you will almost certainly be able to catch several of Strokkur's performances in a row.Blaskogabyggd · 46km from Rangarthing ytra

Iceland has the most waterfalls and natural hot springs in the world. It seems that you can see waterfalls of different sizes and shapes anytime and anywhere. The Golden Falls is very spectacular, flowing down and forming a river below. The tour guide said that the river water is drinkable. I took a few sips out of curiosity and it was sweet. [Scenery] Very beautiful. [Interest] Very interesting. [Cost-effective] High.

Gullfoss is one of the three famous waterfalls in Iceland. You can hear the rumbling sound of rushing water in the valley from a distance. When you get closer, you can feel the spectacular scenery of the whole waterfall. The rapid water flows down with a drop of about 50 meters. The waterfall is like a rolling torrent, roaring.

As a landmark hot spring in Iceland, it's definitely worth a visit. The colors are truly unique, and the scenery is beautiful. Soaking in the hot spring while looking at the volcano and snow-capped mountains, and enjoying a cocktail is very relaxing.

The Forest Falls is one of the many waterfalls in Iceland. The scenery is very beautiful. When we arrived, the weather was super good. The water vapor from the waterfall drew a particularly beautiful rainbow under the sunlight, which was very impressive.

Geysir, what an outstanding view when you’re there in person. You’ll feel the power of nature when it pops out from the steam water hole. Worth visiting.
