The ancient city of Huizhou is located in Shexian County.LianjiangNorth Bank, originally built in the Qin Dynasty, became the seat of the ancient Huizhou Prefecture after the Tang Dynasty. Tang Xianzu's line, "My life's most cherished dream, yet I never dreamt of Huizhou," has captivated countless hearts. The city gates, archways, and the unique prefectural government offices still allow visitors to experience the ancient charm.Huizhou PrefectureThe legacy of the past. There are several roads leading into the ancient city, and it doesn't really matter which road you choose. The ancient city isn't very big; you can visit all the main attractions by walking around. It's near Renhe Tower in the north.Huiyuan GardenTicket offices are available at both the Nanqiao Tower and the Duojingyuan visitors Center outside the southern barbican. Among the several city gates of Huizhou Ancient City, the Nanqiao Tower is quite unique, with 13 pairs of pillars forming the gate frame, arranged in a row inside the gate opening to support the tower. It is said that this "row of pillars" is the authentic city gate style of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Xu Guo Stone Archway, located inside the East Watchtower (Yanghe Gate), is the essence of the entire ancient city, built in the twelfth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1584 AD). The archway has eight pillars, with a cross-section shaped like the Chinese character "口" (kou), creating a three-dimensional structure. Both the four exterior and four interior sides can be viewed. Twelve stone lions guard the base of the pillars, and the upper part features exquisite stone carvings. Currently, this is the only ancient archway of its kind, highlighting the distinguished status of its owner, Xu Guo, a veteran of three reigns. Many attractions in the ancient city radiate from the Xu Guo Stone Archway. To the west, you can visit the Huizhou Prefectural Government Office, a modern reconstruction modeled after the Ming Dynasty government office; to the east, you can visit the memorial hall of Tao Xingzhi, a native of Shexian County; and to the north, you can visit...Huiyuan Garden, butHuiyuan GardenThe area is filled with antique-style buildings. Doushan Street, located in the northeast of the ancient city, brings together Hui-style ancient residences, archways, and ancient wells. Strolling along the ancient street paved with bluestone slabs and cobblestones is a truly delightful experience. Leaving the ancient city from the barbican, cross the "Taiping Bridge," a stone bridge built during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, and you will arrive at...LianjiangSouth bank, here isTaibai TowerHe Xin'an Stele Garden.Taibai TowerBuilt to commemorate Li Bai, the Xin'an Stele Garden houses the Ming Dynasty calligraphic works *Yu Qingzhai Tie* and *Qingjiantang Tie*, which are worth visiting for calligraphy visitors. Along...LianjiangHeading east, the Changqing Temple Pagoda, built in the second year of the Xuanhe era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1119 AD), is rarely visited. However, it offers a truly unexpected surprise to visitors who get close: each layer of the outer pagoda has colorful murals, which have become blurred over the years and cannot be seen from a distance. The last attraction, Yuliang Scenic attraction, is located 2 kilometers east of the ancient city. The entrance is at...LianjiangThe north bank is the only way to get back to the north bank after visiting Changqing Temple Pagoda; if you're coming from the south bank, you'll need to cross Taiping Bridge again.Yuliang DamYou have to go around to Ziyang Bridge to cross the river. The main attractions of Yuliang attraction areLianjiangMing DynastyYuliang DamWhether or not you can walk up to the dam depends on...LianjiangThe water level is high; if it floods the ancient dam, it becomes impossible to climb it. When you reach the dam, remember to look for the small stone slabs, called "ingot locks," embedded horizontally between the long stone slabs; these help stabilize the dam. Also, look for the sluice gate in the center of the dam for drainage. If you'd like to take a ride on one of the locals' small boats along the shore...LianjiangThe price is negotiable. Residents still live on Yuliang Old Street on the north bank, and as always, they hang their bedsheets to dry in front of the ancient buildings; time seems to stand still here. The ancient city is lit up at night, offering stunning night views. (The text abruptly shifts to a description of the ancient city.)Tao Xingzhi Memorial HallThe nearby Shexian Jiuyue Huizhou Inn (Huizhou Ancient City Branch) offers accommodation, and there are more options outside the ancient city. Restaurants are concentrated in...Huiyuan GardenIn addition, local specialties include Huizhou Yipin Guo (a type of hot pot), a large pot layered with chicken, duck, meat, and fried tofu, garnished with egg dumplings, which is very tempting. Other dishes worth trying include hairy tofu and stinky mandarin fish. If you come across a vendor selling preserved vegetable pancakes, you can buy some to eat while you stroll around; they are very delicious. She County · 2.1km from downtown

The Ancient Huizhou Cultural Tourism Area is located in Huangshan City, Anhui Province, the birthplace of Huizhou culture. The ancient city of Huizhou is the seat of the Huizhou government and is one of the four best-preserved ancient cities in China. The Tangyue Archway Group is the largest archway community in China. It consists of seven closely connected stone arches in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Tang Mo has the reputation of the first village of Shuikou Garden in China. The idyllic scenery is elegant and chic, and the French romantic style is closely related to the ancient villages of Huizhou. Chengkan is known as the first Fengshui village in China. It integrates natural landscapes as a whole. According to the location and layout of the Eight Diagrams Fengshui theory in the Book of Changes, it interprets the philosophical theory that the heaven and the earth are interdependent. The Qiankou Residential House is known as a living monograph of the folk architectural art of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in my country, and it is a collection of the most classic and representative Huizhou Residential Houses in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Ancient Huizhou Cultural Tourism Area presents the "Hui culture", one of the three major regional cultures of China, perfectly and vividly to the world through the gathering of ancient city life, ancestral hall culture, archway culture, Huizhou merchant culture, village culture and residential culture. She County · 2.3km from downtown

The Huizhou government office is located at No. 120, Zhonghe Street, Huicheng Town, She County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. It is the seat of the ancient Huizhou government. It began in the third year of Xuanhe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1121) when Shezhou was changed to Huizhou. It was originally the Huizhou government, and was rebuilt during the Shaoxi to Duanping years. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was the Huizhou Road government, and was rebuilt again during the Zhizheng period. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was successively changed to the Executive Privy Council and the Command and Envoy Office, and the government was located on the site of the former Experience Office to its west. In the third year of Hongwu (1370), it was restored to the Huizhou government. It was rebuilt during the Zhengtong, Hongzhi, and Chongzhen periods of the Ming Dynasty, and during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Daoguang periods of the Qing Dynasty. The original main buildings included the watchtower, the ceremonial gate, the main hall, the back hall, and the prefectural residence. After 1949, it was used as the She County government. In the 1980s, due to the construction of a new county government building, most of the buildings except the watchtower and the back hall were demolished. Since April 2009, the She County government has invested 200 million yuan to rebuild the palace on the original site, referring to the map of the government office in the Huizhou Prefecture Records of the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty. The total area is 2.4 hectares, with a construction area of 9,800 square meters. It was officially opened to the public in November 2012. The restored building units refer to the existing architectural remains of the mid-Ming Dynasty in She County, and adopt the small-scale practices of the Ming Dynasty, such as Huizhou winter melon beams, inserted arches, and through-beam hall structures, and the interior is built on the Ming Dynasty. The colors refer to the Ming Hui Dian, "the beams, eaves, and rafters are painted with green and green", and "the doors are painted with black oil".She County · 2km from downtown

The Huizhou Prefectural Government Office truly lives up to its reputation as the core government office of ancient Huizhou. Restored to its original site according to Ming Dynasty regulations, its central axis layout is orderly and solemn, with the ceremonial gate, main hall, and second hall unfolding in sequence, showcasing the grandeur of an ancient government office. The exquisite Hui-style wooden structure and intricate carvings add to its charm. Visitors can also watch live court performances, gaining a direct experience of the ancient government office system. The office exudes a rich historical atmosphere, making it more than just a place for taking photos; it's a perfect opportunity to quietly appreciate the cultural heritage of Huizhou and a must-see cultural highlight in the ancient city of Huizhou.

A combined ticket for the Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex and the Bao Family Garden is available. The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex comprises seven archways from the Ming and Qing dynasties belonging to the Bao family. The stone carvings are rich in historical significance, and a guided tour is highly recommended. The Bao Family Garden primarily features Hui-style bonsai and can be visited briefly. The combined ticket costs 98 yuan, which is slightly high overall.

Honestly, it was much worse than I expected... It felt far inferior to Qiandao Lake, both in terms of scenery and activities. I didn't even bother taking pictures of the river views. We visited three islands: one for autumn harvest, one for the "Red Makeup" area with its thousand-year-old camphor tree, and one for fishing. We just looked around casually; we were already there anyway...

I came specifically to see the fish lanterns and unlocked the same style as my family's home. Yongxing Lake is so lively at night, like celebrating the New Year! Come see the fish transforming into dragons, everyone has a fish lantern, and the green bricks and white tiles make it feel like I've traveled back in time!

Tangmo holds the gentlest memories of old Huizhou. The Tongbao Hanlin Archway stands quietly, engraving a century of literary tradition; the ancient ginkgo tree, stretching out its branches with vigor, has witnessed the passing years of this ancient village. As night falls, fish lanterns float along the stream, their lights reflected on the Tanggan River. Each archway, each tree, each lantern, each stream—ancient charm and everyday life collide in perfect harmony.

The village retains its original ecological charm, with old rammed earth buildings perched high in the mountains. The earthen-yellow buildings cascade down the slope, creating a beautiful autumn atmosphere without excessive commercialization. Entry to the village is free, but the shuttle bus up the mountain costs extra. It's suitable for those who enjoy the wilderness, photography, and are willing to hike a short distance.

The wetlands on the edge of the village have unique scenery and ancient water conservancy projects. Even without a guide, I only understood them intuitively, and they were impressive, though not entirely clear. Free admission and well-managed—thumbs up! Perfect for relaxation, unwinding, and team building. I imagine the stream would be full of children playing in the water during the summer.

Inside the scenic area, you can listen to operas and watch situational dramas; don't expect too much, just enjoy them. From the back garden of the government office, you can climb the city wall, which is quite a good place to see the ancient city of Huizhou.

The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex is the pinnacle of the "memorial archway" category, one of the three wonders of ancient Huizhou architecture. The completeness of the seven interconnected archways and the family narrative they represent are irreplaceable in southern Anhui and even nationwide. While the bonsai design in the Bao Family Garden is commendable, the garden's architecture is rough and doesn't match the ancient architectural complex. The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex and the Bao Family Garden, one dynamic and the other serene, one strong and the other gentle, one telling the story of the Bao family's four-hundred-year ethical glory, the other embodying the garden aesthetics of the heyday of Huizhou merchants, together create a complete picture of Huizhou's culture and nature, making them ideal for a combined visit.

With a history of over 1800 years, Xucun is a renowned historical and cultural town, a traditional Chinese village, and a photography art village in China. The village boasts beautiful scenery and a rich Huizhou cultural history. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Huizhou merchants flourished, and more than 200 ancient buildings from the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and Republican periods are still preserved, along with 16 national-level cultural relics protection units. Historically, Xucun was a place of great literary achievement, producing one top scholar (Zhuangyuan), 48 Jinshi (successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations), and 53 Juren (successful candidates in the provincial imperial examinations), earning it the reputation of "Huizhou's First Village of Jinshi."
