The permanent exhibition is arranged chronologically across four floors of the main building, from works of the early Dutch period to the color experiments of the Paris period, and then to representative works of the Arles and Saint-Rémy periods, fully presenting Van Gogh's brief yet highly productive painting career. Must-see works in the museum include classic masterpieces such as "Sunflowers," "The Potato Eaters," "The Bedroom," and "Almond Blossom." The second floor also displays handwritten letters Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo and other relatives and friends, often accompanied by sketch drafts, serving as an important window into the artist's inner world. The third floor focuses on Japanese ukiyo-e prints that influenced Van Gogh, as well as works by contemporary artists such as Gauguin and Monet, presenting a broader artistic context. The main building was designed by the Dutch De Stijl architect Rietveld and opened to the public in 1973; the oval exhibition wing added in 1999 was designed by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, and the two buildings are connected by an underground passage, with the exhibition wing mainly used for temporary exhibitions. It is recommended to start from the ground floor and work your way up, following the timeline of Van Gogh's life for a complete experience. Natural light penetrates the entire hall, which is spacious and bright. △ The building where the museum is located was planned and designed by the designer of Amsterdam Railway Station. It was opened to the public in 1885 and is one of the oldest museums in Europe. △ Go up the escalator and enter the viewing corridor. The corridor is composed of arched brick walls and large floor-to-ceiling windows. You can enjoy the panoramic view of the atrium hall. The library on the same floor as the corridor is not to be missed. The history of the library can be traced back to the 19th century.
