Sotomayor Square is located in the heart of the old port area of Valparaiso, nestled between the mountains and the sea, and is considered the city's representative civic square. It is surrounded by historic buildings: facing the sea is the French Neoclassical-style Chilean Navy Headquarters building, and nearby is the old barracks of the Valparaiso Volunteer Fire Department. Today, it serves as both a public space for local residents' daily activities and an important starting point for tourists to explore the historic district of Valparaiso. It has convenient transportation, and the port, waterfront promenade, and the city's historic streets are all within walking distance.Valparaiso · 1.1km from downtown

Plaza de Armas de Santiago is the historic heart of Santiago, the capital of Chile, and has served as the city's central square since its founding by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541. The square features a grid layout planned by architect Pedro de Gamboa and is surrounded by several important buildings constructed during the colonial period and the 19th century. On the west side of the square stands the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, a neoclassical cathedral with exquisite interior decorations. To the north, from west to east, are theCorreosChile Plaza de Armas, the National History Museum (formerly the Royal Court building), and the Santiago City Hall, all of which feature harmonious facades. The Fernández Concha commercial arcade on the south side was built in 1869 and still houses various shops and small restaurants today. In the center of the square is a Carrara marble sculpture titled "Liberty of America," created by Italian sculptor Francesco Orselino, which symbolizes freedom breaking its chains. There are also other commemorative facilities, such as the bronze equestrian statue of Valdivia and a ground marker indicating the city's zero-kilometer point.Santiago · 100km from Valparaiso

Santa Lucía Hill

28 reviews
Santa Lucía Hill is a conical hill in the center of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It is the remnant of a volcano from millions of years ago and was known in the original local language as "Huelén," meaning "pain and sorrow." This hill is considered the birthplace of Santiago—it was here that Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia announced the founding of the city in 1541. In the 1870s, then-mayor of Santiago, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, led the transformation of this rocky hill into an urban garden, introducing fountains, sculptures, staircases, and drought-resistant vegetation. At the entrance at the foot of the hill stands an ornately decorated porch, with large murals on both sides. Winding up the curved stone steps, you will pass a small chapel built in the 1870s and various cacti. The hill is also dotted with sights such as the Neptune Fountain and Hidalgo Castle. The summit features an observation deck, offering a view of the Santiago city area and the distant Andes.Chile · Santiago

Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago

Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago is considered the central church of Catholicism in Chile and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Upon entering, look up to see vaulted ceilings covered in frescoes and rows of chandeliers. The columns are adorned with gold leaf, and the floor is paved with black and white geometric tiles, exuding a sense of solemnity and refinement. Deep in the nave, a marble baldachin stands above the main altar, housing a crucifix. The altarpiece on the main wall of the apse centers on a wooden statue of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by angels and bronze-colored rays, with statues of Saint James the Apostle and Saint Rose of Lima on either side. The row of small altars in the side aisles is also worth a closer look, featuring the altar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Chile, as well as altars dedicated to Chilean native saints Alberto Hurtado and Teresa of the Andes. Sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows is a scene that leaves a lasting impression on many visitors.Chile · Santiago

Barrio Bellavista is a well-known local bohemian neighborhood and nightlife hub. After dark, the lights of the bars, restaurants, and dance halls along the main street, Pío Nono, gradually light up. Locals and tourists flood the streets, sipping Chilean wine or swaying to the rhythm of live bands, and the lively atmosphere continues late into the night. During the day, it takes on a different look: colonial-era old houses and colorful buildings stand side by side, with walls covered in diverse graffiti that spreads from the street entrance to the depths of the alleys. It is famous for its distinct artistic atmosphere, rich nightlife, and diverse architectural styles, and is an important part of Santiago's urban culture.Chile · Recoleta

I think this is the most beautiful square I have seen in this country. It has very beautiful buildings, statues, and lawns. It feels very majestic. If you come here at night, there will be some lighting effects, which are quite beautiful.

Standing among the colonial buildings of the Plaza de Armas, dyed honey by the setting sun, I vaguely heard the echoes of history. The chiming of the church's bronze bells startled a flock of pigeons as I stroked the polished stone carvings framing the central fountain—said to have been a resting place for countless travelers over three centuries. An elderly Indian in a striped poncho sat on a bench weaving colorful ropes. At his feet, a small mound of colored salt formed in an aluminum box, while a young man wearing headphones skated by him. The changing of the guards at the presidential palace, their heels tapping out a rhythmic beat, couldn't drown out the melody of "The Dove" played by an accordionist in the corner. I pulled a coin with Bolivar's face from my pocket and suddenly felt that this square resembled it: engraved with the solemnity of the colonial era on one side, and the heat of everyday life on the other.

The best view of the Andes Mountains. I climbed up instead of taking the cable car. The distance is not far, but the ground seems to be under repair. I fell and it was not worth it. In addition to enjoying the scenery on the top of the mountain, remember to try the local classic cold drink mote. It looks like a cold drink with pudding and beans, and it tastes good. It is said that the local Chileans will also have a cup at the top of the mountain. I took the cable car down the mountain. It was 3400, about 4 US dollars, which is not expensive. It is still a must-see attraction.

We welcome visitors to Chile's Cuiling Winery for tasting. The winery's Casablanca Valley area is about 66 kilometers from the capital, which is an ideal environment for growing white grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as red grapes such as Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah. Tasting exquisite food and wine, learning about wine, visiting wine cellars, and cycling through the valley is a great place to slow down life and relax on vacation~
