Durmitor National Park is located in northern Montenegro and is part of the limestone mountains of the Dinaric Alps. This mountain range was carved by glaciers and flowing water, with both surface rivers and underground rivers coexisting, and canyons and caves interspersed throughout. Dozens of peaks with an elevation of over 2,000 m rise from the alpine meadows and forests, among which Bobotov Kuk, with an elevation of over 2,500 m, is a popular route for mountaineering enthusiasts. The park also preserves vast old-growth European black pine forests, where trees hundreds of years old can grow to around 50 m. Various endemic plants grow in the forest, several of which are found only in this mountain region. The Ice Cave, famous for its icicles and ice stalagmites, as well as wildlife such as brown bears and golden eagles, are also worth visiting.Podgora · 6.4km from Zabljak

Black Lake is located in Durmitor National Park in northern Montenegro. It is an alpine lake formed by glacial erosion, at an altitude of over 1,400 m, adjacent to the mountain town of Zabljak. Locals call this group of glacial lakes on the mountain the "Eyes of the Mountain," and Black Lake is one of the largest and most famous among them. Its name comes from the dense black pine forests surrounding it on all sides. Viewed from above, the dark forest sea embraces a pool of blue-green water, which is how the lake got its name. The lake is actually composed of two parts: the Big Lake and the Small Lake, connected in the middle by a narrow channel. When the water level drops in summer, the channel dries up, and the two bodies of water temporarily become separate sights. The small stone bridge spanning the channel has thus become a popular photo spot along the lake trail, and standing on the bridge, you can see both sides of the lake at once. When the wind is calm, the lake reflects the Bear Peak behind it, which stands at an altitude of over 2,000 m, accompanied by the dark pine reflections and the vibrant green water. It is especially beautiful in the early morning when the light is soft and there are few tourists.Pitomine · 2.7km from Zabljak

Đurđevića Tara Bridge is located in northern Montenegro, spanning the Tara River Canyon, on the mountain road between Zabljak and Mojkovac. Construction of this road bridge began in the late 1930s and was completed in 1940. It is over 300 m long, with five concrete arches supporting a bridge deck that stands over 100 m above the river. Looking down from the bridge, you can see nearly vertical cliffs and the rushing Tara River beneath your feet. The deepest part of the Tara River Canyon exceeds 1 km, making it a famous deep gorge in the Balkan Peninsula with rugged terrain. Đurđevića Tara Bridge is also widely known because of a film: during World War II, to block the advance of Italian forces, partisans, with the help of an engineer, blew up one of the bridge's arches. The engineer was later captured and killed on the bridge. This story was adapted into the 1969 Yugoslav film "The Bridge." The film was widely popular in China at the time, and its theme song, "Bella Ciao," is still widely sung today. Walking on the bridge today, you can still imagine the thrilling atmosphere depicted in the film.Bitine · 13.9km from Zabljak

Zabljak is located in the north of Montenegro. It is the administrative center of the Žabljak Municipality and the highest town in the Balkan Peninsula, with an altitude of about 1,456 meters. The town is located in the heart of the Durmitor Mountains and is surrounded by the Durmitor National Park. It is an important mountain tourism center in Montenegro. Žabljak is famous for its rich natural landscapes and diverse outdoor activities. There are 18 glacial lakes in Durmitor National Park, among which the most famous is the Black Lake, which is only a few kilometers away from the town center. In addition, the nearby Tara River Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Europe and is a popular place for rafting and hiking. The climate in the area is humid continental, with cool summers, cold winters and abundant precipitation throughout the year. In winter, Žabljak becomes a gathering place for skiers and snowboarders, while in summer it is suitable for activities such as mountaineering, hiking and mountain biking. This is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get close to nature, showing the natural beauty and cultural charm of Montenegro.Zabljak · 201m from downtown

Budva Old Town

Budva Old Town has a continuous history of habitation spanning over 2,500 years, making it one of the oldest settlements along the Adriatic coast. From early Illyrian settlements and ancient Greek trading posts to the successive rule of Rome, Byzantium, and the Republic of Venice, the remnants of different civilizations are layered throughout the old town. The entire old town is surrounded by defensive stone walls, with beaches just outside, allowing sea breezes to drift into the stone alleys. The old town is compact, with narrow, cobblestone streets winding through it. Small squares occasionally open up from the alleys, with cafes and restaurants lined up under the arcades. The square enclosed by three churches is the heart of the old town: the bell tower of the Church of St. John is one of the tallest structures in the old town and can be seen from afar; the adjacent Church of St. Mary, built in the 9th century, is one of the oldest surviving churches on the eastern Adriatic coast; the Church of the Holy Trinity is distinguished by its pink and gray striped stone exterior walls. Walking to the citadel at the southern tip of the peninsula, you can climb the wall walkway to overlook St. Nicholas Island and the bays on both sides.Montenegro · Budva

Kotor Old Town Viewhas been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The entire old town is surrounded by walls approximately 4.5 km long. The stone walls rise from the seaside, zigzagging up the steep mountain to reach the Castle of San Giovanni at an altitude of about 280 m, forming a complete defensive system. The walls were first built in the 9th century and have been continuously expanded over the following ten centuries, with some sections reaching up to 20 m in height. The old town is accessed through three gates, including the Sea Gate. Upon entering, the first thing that catches the eye is the Place d'Armes, where a clock tower built in 1602 stands, slightly tilted due to multiple earthquakes. Walking deeper along the cobblestone alleys, you will pass the Flour Square, the Karampana Fountain, and several palaces of noble families. The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon is the core landmark of the old town, with its solemn and striking Romanesque twin-bell tower facade. The Maritime Museum next to the cathedral tells the history of navigation in the bay from the 9th century to World War II. About halfway up the climb along the walls, there is also the Church of Our Lady of Remedy, which serves as a viewpoint for a mid-climb rest. From the top of the Castle of San Giovanni, you can overlook the red roofs of the entire old town and the panoramic view of the Bay of Kotor.Kotor · 86.1km from Zabljak

I rented a car from Tivat Airport and drove for three and a half hours on a mountain road just to see the Tara River Valley Bridge - the famous Yugoslav World War II classic movie "The Bridge", a classic memory of a generation. Walking on the bridge, I seemed to hear a familiar melody in my ears - Ah, my friend, goodbye! Ah, my friend, goodbye~ goodbye~ goodbye...

Budva Old Town is a charming coastal gem that beautifully combines history, culture, and stunning Adriatic scenery. Surrounded by ancient stone walls, the old town is filled with narrow cobblestone streets, historic churches, cozy cafés, and picturesque squares. Walking through its medieval alleys feels like stepping back in time, while the nearby beaches and waterfront add a vibrant atmosphere. I loved exploring the hidden corners, enjoying the sea views, and experiencing the unique blend of old-world charm and modern energy. Whether you're interested in history, photography, or simply relaxing by the coast, Budva Old Town is well worth a visit.
