Travel Highlights
• Icy Wonders: In winter, Kanas Lake freezes into a 3-meter-thick layer of ice. When sunlight shines through, it displays a gradient of blue and green patterns, with ice cracks intertwining with the reflections of distant mountains, creating a breathtaking scene. Moon Bay and Fairy Bay transform into a black-and-white ink painting, with frost-covered branches adorning the riverbanks. Drone aerial photography reveals the icy river curves shaped like the Tai Chi symbol.
• Folk Customs Experience: In Hemu Village and Kanas Village, you can step into a Tuva wooden house, sip piping hot milk tea, and listen to the melodious tunes played on the Chuur flute. If you happen to visit during the Tuva Spring Festival, you can witness ancient activities such as snow horse racing and wrestling.
• Snow Activities: You can ride a horse-drawn sleigh through the forest, experiencing the thrill of speed at -30°C. Alternatively, you can try skiing with fur at the Jikepulin International Ski Resort, experiencing the primitive wilderness of the birthplace of skiing. Helpful Tips
• Transportation: Only 4WD vehicles with snow tires are allowed into the scenic area. Snow chains are necessary from Burqin to Kanas, and gas stations are scarce along the way; it's recommended to fill up in Chonghuer Town. Alternatively, you can take the train to Altay Station and then share a ride to the scenic area.
• Equipment: A three-layer clothing approach is recommended: quick-drying underwear + fleece jacket + 800-fill-power down jacket. Snow gaiters and crampons are also essential to prevent snow from getting in. Use hand warmers for spare batteries in your camera, and cover your phone with a fog-proof lens cap.
• Accommodation: We recommend choosing a family-run guesthouse in Kanas Village with underfloor heating, such as "Xuesong Inn," where you can stargaze through the glass dome at night. You can also try the Hemu Ice and Snow Hotel, experiencing the extreme cold aesthetics of -5°C ice beds and reindeer-skin sleeping bags, but reservations must be made one month in advance.
