The whole walk is still quite leg-consuming. I look at the three countries at a glance. The left is Mongolia and the right is Russia. The door is very spectacular. It is the fifth generation of the door. Standing here, my heart can't be proud of the colorful Matryoshka Square. I walk and watch, I don't feel tired, I just feel that my eyes are not enough. I was a little disappointed after taking bus 92 to the Chulechuan Grassland stop. There was no grassland, just a desolate meadow with very short, dry grass. In the distance, I saw a building that looked like a yurt, went inside for a quick look, took a photo with a sculpture of a Mongolian beauty, and then came out via a road near the mountains. There was a bus stop for bus 115 by the roadside. After waiting a while, the bus arrived (it came from the Red Education Base), and I rode for two stops before finally reaching the core scenic area! It was breathtaking! Grasslands, towering green mountains, and babbling rivers were all within easy reach, a truly beautiful sight. The only downside was that I didn't see any horses or sheep. For the return trip, I first took bus 115 to the Red Education Base, then transferred to bus 92. Bus 115 is a suburban bus, running approximately every hour, so be mindful of your travel time. No entrance fee is required.
On August 31st, I took advantage of the weekend for a two-day, one-night special forces tour of Hohhot.
It happened to rain, so I'm especially grateful to the two train drivers who drove my son and me to the door to prevent us from getting soaked. Two weeks in advance was perfect. It's a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings now, so you can rent an electric scooter and combine the train ride with walking.

Going to Meidaizhao and then to the Jokhang Temple in Hohhot created a fascinating sense of continuity. We happened to have a chance. Visiting Meidaizhao in the morning and the Jokhang Temple the next day was a truly wonderful experience. A guided tour of Meidaizhao is essential to truly appreciate the historical continuity. If you want to climb the White Pagoda later, you don't need to buy a ticket; you can go there on your own.

Meidaizhao, formerly known as Lingjue Temple and later renamed Shouling Temple, is one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist structures in Inner Mongolia and a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Site. Located on the north side of the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, this unique ancient structure was built during the Longqing period of the Ming Dynasty (1567-1572). It was built by Altan Khan, leader of the Tumed tribe of Mongolia, after he was granted the title of Queen of Shunyi.
01 Overview
Meidaizhao has a circumference of 681 meters and a total area of approximately 4,000 square meters. It is surrounded by a wall of earth and stone inlays, approximately 4 meters high and sturdy. Corner towers are built at each corner, and a gate is located in the middle of the south wall. The temple houses approximately 1,650 square meters of Ming Dynasty murals, vividly depicting the political and religious developments of the Mongol Jin Dynasty during the Ming Dynasty. It is known as a mural museum. These murals are of great value to the study of Ming Dynasty Mongol history, Buddhism, architecture, and art.
02 Tour Route and Highlights
From downtown Baotou, drive approximately 50 kilometers along the Beijing-Tibet Expressway to Meidaizhao. Leo drove there himself. The breathtaking scenery of the Inner Mongolian steppes along the way was breathtaking.
Tickets cost approximately 30 yuan per person. For a deeper historical perspective, consider purchasing a guided tour or a mobile phone ticket. A typical visit with photos and a guide should take about two hours.

Watching the sunset in Lishantou Town is a very good choice. I slept in the yurt in Heishantou for an afternoon. There was a group of horses eating grass beside the yurt, and the pony was playing with the big horse. It was cute and let me take a picture. Then I went to the nearby dining hall for dinner. After dinner, I came out and found that the sunset was so beautiful and took a few photos. Although there are many small mosquitoes on the grassland, it is worth taking protective measures to come here to play at the same time.
I was planted by a friend. I came here for the first time today. It was the same as my friend described it. It was very good! I really like a homestay in this place. A free attraction in downtown Hohhot, the mosque is an ancient Chinese building. Photos show that many of the surrounding buildings originally had Arabic-style domes, but now they've all been renovated with Mongolian-style spires, which is a welcome development. Next to the Grand Mosque is a wide food court with a wide selection of local specialties.
