Wulanmaodu Grassland is located at the southern foot of Daxinganling Mountains, between Arxan City and Ulanhot City in Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and in the north of Horqin Right Front Banner. It is close to the Eastern Province of Mongolia and National Highway 302. It is a typical Hanggai grassland.
"Hanggai" is an ancient Mongolian word, meaning "grassland in the mountains and forests". The Mongolians call the high-quality pastures on the edge of the mountains and forests Hanggai grassland. The terrain of Hanggai grassland is gentle, mostly composed of gentle hills and river valleys. The river originates from the dense forests and deep mountains, nourishing the grasslands under the mountains. Mountains, forests, rivers, and grasslands form a complete ecosystem. In general, we understand Hanggai grassland as a world with blue sky, white clouds, grasslands, rivers, hills and trees.
In the eyes of herders, Hanggai grassland is heaven. There are three reasons: First, Hanggai grassland is located at the foot of the mountain, which is convenient for windproof and warmth, providing convenient conditions for ancient nomadic people to spend the winter; second, Hanggai grassland has a gentle terrain and slow runoff, which is conducive to river water infiltration, weak soil evaporation, good water conditions, and lush grass growth; third, the groundwater level in the river valley area is high, and rat holes are often flooded by groundwater, making it impossible to live, and rodent damage is light. Hanggai grassland is one of the few pollution-free, rodent-free, and desertification-free original grasslands in the world.
Wulanmaodu grassland is located in the transition zone from Daxinganling to Horqin grassland and Songnen plain. It belongs to the hilly mountain grassland in the north of Horqin grassland. It is the largest pure animal husbandry area with the largest number of livestock in Xing'an League grassland, with a total area of more than 8,000 square kilometers. Wulanmaodu is Mongolian, meaning "red tree", and is named after the abundance of red hair willow. On the Ulanmaodu grassland, 45 million mu of grassland is rippling with green waves, 28 million mu of forests are growing, more than 300 rivers are shining, and countless horses, cattle and sheep are scattered on the grassland like pearls.
The Ulanmaodu grassland is one of the most secret spiritual pastures in China. It is sandwiched between the Greater Khingan Range, the Yanshan Mountains and the Liaoxi Corridor, and survives in the cracks between the Inner Mongolia Plateau, the North China Plain and the Northeast Plain. It has become the least known one among the Inner Mongolia grasslands. You must have heard of the Hulunbuir Grassland, the Xilin Gol Grassland, and the Ulanbutong Grassland. You may have heard of the Ordos Grassland, the Horqin Grassland, and the Gongger Grassland. You may have even heard of the Xilamuren Grassland, the Huitengxile Grassland, the Subohan Grassland and the Gegentala Grassland, but most likely, you have never heard of the Ulanmaodu Grassland, a name that is even a bit confusing. He is so low-key.
In August, the most beautiful season of grassland, we drove from Heiyangshan Tourist Resort to the heart of Ulanmaodu Grassland. There were beautiful scenery on both sides of the road, with horses, cows and sheep everywhere, but no tourists. At the end of the day, there were few opportunities to meet other cars, so we had the whole grassland to ourselves. If you are tired of the crowds and hustle and bustle like me, I suggest you come to Xing'an League and stay in Ulanmaodu Grassland for a few days to heal yourself.
