The environment is very good, the second floor, the decoration style is unique, there is a traditional Chinese style feeling, there are many diners, the place is also very large, the taste is not bad, I ordered the steam pot chicken, compared with the Baoxing building at noon, it is sweeter and more fragrant, the Hani white fish is probably because we are used to eating river fish, the plum ribs are sweeter, the taste is not bad, a bit of Suzhou taste, the wild vegetable peanut soup is too big, overall good, the service is also good, I ordered an extra fried rice. The waiter also refunded it.
The dinner on February 24, 2019 was antique and full of Chinese charm. The steamed chicken here really amazed me. At that time and even now, I think the steamed chicken here is the best steamed chicken I have ever eaten. The steamed chicken eaten in Shanghai can no longer be called steamed chicken. The soup is very delicious and mellow, and the quality of the chicken ingredients is also quite good. It is a little regrettable that the other four dishes are at least average in taste. I remember that the per capita price was more than 40 yuan at that time, which was not expensive.

Seeing the good reviews online, I went there to eat in the evening. I didn't know how to order, so I just ordered a set meal, which was only 78 yuan. The portion was huge and I was completely full. The steamed chicken and tofu are both local specialties, but I think the most outstanding one is the pickled cabbage and minced pork. The acidity is just right, and it is a little sweet, very delicious.
The following is a travel guide to Jianshui, so that you can fully appreciate the charm of this small city in southern Yunnan. Preliminary preparation - Documents: Bring your ID card and other documents that may be needed, such as student ID, senior citizen ID, etc., to obtain corresponding discounts. - Clothing: Jianshui has a pleasant climate, but the ultraviolet rays are strong in summer, so you need to bring light and breathable clothing, sun protection clothing, sun hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.; you can prepare long-sleeved jackets in spring and autumn; winter is not particularly cold, so a thick jacket is enough. - Medicines: Prepare common medicines such as cold medicine, gastrointestinal medicine, motion sickness medicine, and anti-mosquito bite medicine. Transportation Guide - External transportation: You can go to Kunming first, and then take the high-speed rail from Kunming to Jianshui, which only takes about 2 hours; you can also choose to drive from Kunming Changshui Airport to Jianshui, which takes about 2.5 hours. - Internal transportation: The attractions in the ancient city are relatively concentrated, so you can choose to walk; to go to more distant attractions, such as Tuanshan Folk Houses, you can take a taxi or a rural van. Attractions - Historical and cultural categories: including the Jianshui Confucian Temple, which was built in 1285 AD and adopts a palace-style architectural style symmetrical on the north-south central axis; the Chaoyang Tower, which has a history of more than 620 years, combines the architectural styles of the Yuan and Ming dynasties; and the Zhu Family Garden built by the brothers Zhu Weiqing, a local gentry in the late Qing Dynasty, which is known as the "Grand View Garden of Southern Yunnan".   - Natural scenery categories: There is the Shuanglong Bridge across the Lujiang River and the Tachong River, which is named because the two rivers meander like double dragons. It is one of the 18 famous large ancient bridges in China; there is also the Jianshui Swallow Cave, where you can watch a large flock of swallows leaving and returning to their nests, and the stalactites in the cave are peculiar.   - Special experience categories: You can take the ancient city train evolved from the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, Gebi Linping Inch Track and other railways, and enjoy the pastoral scenery in the retro carriage; you can also go to the Ant Workshop, which is built with five-hole bricks and has a strong artistic atmosphere.  Food recommendations - Special snacks: Golden skin, soft and glutinous roasted tofu, paired with a unique dipping sauce, tastes great; there is also steamed chicken in a purple pottery steamer, the chicken soup is sweet and the chicken is tender; and the grass sprout rice noodles, which are made with local aquatic vegetables, grass sprouts, are fresh and smooth. - Restaurant recommendations: To taste local food, you can go to Xiangmanlou, Yipinliang Restaurant·Jianshui Renjia Branch, Baoxinglou and other restaurants. Accommodation options - Luxury: Jianshui County Heyuan Hotel is a high-quality Qing-style hotel by the lake; Jianshui Lin'an Hotel is adjacent to the ancient city, and you can open the window to overlook the bustling lights. - Special style: Jianshui Tingziyun Resort Hotel has a strong classical charm; Wangyungui Hotel (Jianshui Ancient City Scenic Area Store) is an ancient courtyard in the ancient city. - Boutique B&B type: Qiuye Tianyuan Hotel (Xianghui Bridge Branch) is located in the century-old Republic of China Railway Station, full of French romance; Jianshui Lake View Inn offers a 180° panoramic view of the lake. #如歌的之旅

After visiting Jianshui, I enjoyed a dinner at Baoxinglou, a well-known local restaurant on Guangci Road near Guangci Lake. Baoxinglou has an antique architectural style. From the Guangci Road gate, you can directly go to the second floor, which is considered upstairs. When you are in the restaurant, you can go downstairs to the first floor. From the back door, you will reach the ring road beside Guangci Lake. The scenery is very beautiful. The menu has various local specialties of Jianshui, as well as specialties from Honghe Prefecture and even many other prefectures in Yunnan Province. The ingredients are fresh, the cooking level is excellent, and the spiciness is just right, which is endless aftertaste. Jianshui grilled tofu, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, is worth recommending.
It was probably around 1pm, so we didn't have to wait in line. The storefront was antique with ethnic characteristics. We ordered steam pot chicken, three-shredded grass sprouts, a basket of siu mai, and grilled tofu. It was okay. The steam pot chicken was crispy and a little oily, the grass sprouts were tender and refreshing, and the grilled tofu seemed different from ordinary tofu. It was crispy and spicy with a little chili.

The barbecue and fried rice tasted good, highly recommended! The only drawback was that due to the large number of people coming to dine, the boss was a little busy, and I waited for almost two hours before I could eat the delicious food. After tasting it, I felt it was worth it. Don't miss this restaurant when you come to Jianshui Ancient City!
An old-fashioned barbecue in a small alley in Jianshui. The taste is salty, the ingredients are generous, and it is spicy and delicious.
