Shaanxi History Museum is the first large-scale modern national museum in China, famous for its rich collection of cultural relics and profound historical heritage. It is located at No. 91, Xiaozhai East Road, Yanta District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province.
The museum building is a Tang-style building complex with "central hall and four corners of the tower", which integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times.
The museum has more than 1.71 million pieces (sets) of cultural relics, with Shang and Zhou bronzes, pottery figurines of various dynasties, Han and Tang gold and silver wares, and Tang tomb murals as the collection focus.
Shaanxi History Museum has many special exhibitions, and the following are some recommended exhibitions:
1. "Shaanxi Ancient Civilization" exhibition. This is the basic display of the museum, divided into three exhibition halls from prehistoric to Qin, Han to Northern and Southern Dynasties, Sui and Tang and later, showing important cultural relics from Lantian ape man to Ming and Qing Dynasties. The exhibits include Western Zhou bronzes, Qin Terracotta Warriors, Han Dynasty jades, Tang Dynasty gold and silver wares, etc., showing the splendor of Shaanxi in different historical periods.
2. "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals". The exhibition displays the mural treasures such as "Guests and Envoys" and "Polo" from the tomb of Prince Zhanghuai and "Palace Maids" from the tomb of Princess Yongtai. These murals depict the etiquette norms, living customs, and clothing characteristics of the Tang Dynasty, and are important materials for studying the society of the Tang Dynasty.
3. "Treasures of the Tang Dynasty - Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Hejiacun Cellar". The exhibition displays more than 300 pieces (sets) of precious cultural relics unearthed from the Hejiacun cellar, including jade, gold and silver, and coins. Among them, the golden bowl with mandarin duck and lotus petal pattern and the agate cup with gold animal head are exquisitely crafted, showing the magnificence of the Tang Dynasty.
In addition, there are special exhibitions:
1. "Qin and Han Civilization" series of exhibitions. The exhibition includes "The World is One - Theme Exhibition of Qin and Han Civilization", "City and Mausoleum", "Skill and Beauty", etc. Through rich cultural relics and multimedia interactive devices, the political, economic, and cultural achievements of the Qin and Han Dynasties are displayed.
2. "Jade Collection·Kyushu: The Collision and Aggregation of Early Chinese Civilizations" exhibition. It brings together 450 exhibits from 48 cultural and museum units across the country, using jade as a carrier to explore the origin of Chinese civilization and the process of the formation of early China.
3. "Ancient Chinese Horse Culture Exhibition". More than 150 horse artifacts from past dynasties are exhibited, including Qin saddle horses, Tang Sancai saddle horses, etc., showing the role of horses in ancient production, life, military and other aspects.
