I came from Shaanxi at the end of November. There's a roadside parking lot next to the South Gate. Some informal people approached me, possibly villagers leading groups inside. There were very few people at that time. I bought my ticket in advance. Both the South and East Gates have city gate towers; the East Gate looks more historically significant. There's also a school nearby. Some families in the scenic area said they were descendants of the soldiers who garrisoned the area. There's a beacon tower where you can climb and enjoy panoramic views.
