Heidelberg Castle Walkthrough: Red Sandstone Ruins on Romantic Hilltop

Heidelberg Castle is Heidelberg’s most iconic landmark, located on a hilltop overlooking the Neckar River and the Old Town, its majestic and mysterious presence can be seen throughout the city. The castle is made of red sandstone and has been left with a sense of ruin after many wars and restorations, full of romanticism. Whether you are a history fan, an art junkie, or like to take pictures and check in, this is worth a visit.

Recommended tour routes:
Take the cable car or walk up the hill from the Old Town, with river and Old Town views along the way;on arrival at the castle entrance, visit the main fort area, then slowly explore the castle ruins, gardens, and antique wine barrels (especially the world's largest wine barrels, very shocking!). Finally, remember to climb to the observation deck for a panoramic view of Heidelberg.

Must-play items and photo spots:
· The ruins of the main castle: The remaining red stone walls of the castle are very European historical, perfect for photography.
· Giant wine barrels: The castle displays the world’s largest wine barrels, making it special to watch and photograph.
· Castle Garden: A large garden with beautiful flowers blooming in spring and summer and a super fresh view.
· Observation Deck: Great views overlooking the Old Town and the Neckar River from high up.
· Pharmacy Museum: The museum houses a large collection of ancient medicine boxes and pharmacist tools.

Attraction Tips:
1. Morning arrival recommended, fewer tourists, easier to take pictures;
2. The castle is relatively large, reserve 2-3 hours to slowly enter the visit;
3. Audio guides can be rented at the entrance ticket office to listen to the introduction in Cantonese or English, which will make it easier to understand the story behind the building;
4. The mountain road is a little steep, wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a glass of water will be more convenient;
5. Opening hours will be shortened in winter or holidays.

Notes:
· Address: Schloss Heidelberg, 69117 Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany
· Standard Opening Hours: 09:00 - 18:00 (entrance closes at 17:30)
· Some holidays (such as Christmas, New Year's Eve) will close or close early, remember to check trip.com early for the latest arrangements;
· Not too many restaurants, it is recommended to arrange the itinerary to visit the castle before and after 6 old town areas to find restaurants to eat.
