Chongqing 1949 — More Than Just a Show, It Was Like Stepping Into History 🤩
Some attractions are cool—you snap a few pics, tick them off your bucket list, and move on. But sometimes, you find an experience that hits different and stays in your heart long after you leave. For me, 《重庆·1949》 at the Chongqing 1949 Grand Theatre was THAT kind of vibe!
I rolled up expecting a big historical stage performance. I’d heard it was one of Chongqing’s “must-see” productions, with next-level immersive tech. But honestly? I had NO idea a theatre show could go this far beyond the usual!
From the second you arrive, the theatre’s epic energy grabs you. This isn’t just any venue. The Chongqing 1949 Grand Theatre, located near the iconic Ciqikou area (address: No. 1 Ciqikou Zhengjie, Shapingba District, Chongqing), was literally built for this spectacular show. The space is wild—about 25,000 square metres, soaring 28.6 metres high, and fits around 1,500 people. Even before you find your seat, the whole vibe feels HUGE.
Opening hours: Usually evenings, but check out the latest schedule on trip.com for exact showtimes and ticket info!
If you’re ever in Chongqing, this show is way more than just a performance—it's a deep dive into history that’ll have you feeling like you hopped in a time machine. Trust me, you won’t forget it.

I’ve actually been to Chongqing 1949 twice — the first time by myself, and the second time I brought my friend because I wanted him to experience it too. And somehow… I cried BOTH times. 😭
The funny thing is, my Chinese isn’t good enough to fully understand everything they were saying, but the performances, music, acting and atmosphere were so powerful that I still got emotional. Definitely recommend getting the translation device though, because it’ll help you understand the storyline properly and make the whole experience even better.
It was honestly such an eye-opening experience and something very different from a normal stage performance. The scale of the production and the way everything moves around you is seriously impressive.
Highly recommend choosing the rotating seats as well — it makes the entire show feel so much more immersive.
If you’re visiting Chongqing, I genuinely think Chongqing 1949 is worth adding to your itinerary. I came twice and would still recommend it. ❤️ And if you’re planning to catch the show yourself, you can get your tickets here:
