The Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) is located at the corner of King William Street and Franklin Street on the north side of Victoria Square in Victoria Square in the city center. The General Post Office building is still pretty beautiful , It is the style of Adelaide Town Hall, diagonally opposite to the north side, although it has a clock tower. Opposite to the east is the Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide Treasury. Not far from Adelaide Central Market. The Adelaide General Post Office is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. International mail for collection by overseas tourists can be sent to the Adelaide GPO, stamped with the words "Poste Restante" and the postal code 5000. The post office will keep the mail for up to four weeks. Figure 7-9: View of the General Post Office from Victoria Square.
A symbolic building of the times-General Post Office came to this city for the first time. The Adelaide Post Office at the corner of King William Street and Franklin Street still impressed me deeply. Across the street from this magnificent historical building is Victoria Square. The design of the post office, a symbol of the times, was the result of a competition in 1866, and the building was built in 1872 in its original state. The building is decorated with bathed limestone. The magnificent old building has two floors, with a huge hall on the first floor. Another feature of this building is that there is a bell tower called Victoria Tower, the bell of the bell is copied from the bell of "Westminster Abbey". With its Victoria Tower, the General Post Office was the tallest building in Adelaide until the early 20th century. Inside is still a post office, probably one of the oldest post offices around. Due to the rapid development of the Internet in recent years, traditional mail has basically disappeared from people's vision. Indeed, most of us don’t remember when we last wrote a letter. When I came here, I saw the wonderful interiors of the Victorian era and instantly felt the recurrence of historical scenes. Reminders: 1. Everyone can easily get there by tram. 2. You can buy stationery, books and souvenirs at the post office
