This is situated somewhat away from tourist center, and like other churches, not super interesting, but you can go in for free. So if you happen to be in the neighborhood, do go check it out.
We went up the tower as the actual church is closed due to refurbishments, but the view was amazing. It was brilliant to hear the church bells while at the top too. The tour guide was friendly, funny ...
Unobstructed views - great for photos & 360 scenery of Amsterdam!
I came here 2 weeks ago on a Monday at 1:30pm & was told the next time-slot was for 3pm, so I settled for 5:30pm (the last one before they close at 6pm) so I could head to a museum first. I paid 9 eur...
We did the Westerkerk bell tower tour during a 6 hr layover in Amsterdam. Tour took about 30 min. Great tid bits about local historical events. A lot of stairs, but was worth the view.
Have you heard the bells ring in a site that reverberates with footsteps from centuries past? Westerkerk's carillon has delighted visitors and neighbors since 1658. It is still played by hand daily. This church is such a place of beauty and serenity, Rembrandt was laid to rest there. As Anne Frank bravely hid in her now-famous attic, she could hear the comforting sounds of Westerkerk. Stand in the same spots where wedding guests of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus witnessed the service. Westerkerk's 36 windows allow you to revel in sunlight, as though the face of God were smiling upon you. Your visit to the Netherlands would be incomplete if you were to miss the delights of this lovely place.
A beautiful church and a great way to find your bearings if you get lost in the city streets
The beautiful Westerkerk (Western Church) was built in the early seventeenth century and is where the great Dutch painter, Rembrandt, is buried.
Awesome view from the top! It's a beautiful old church, but the best part is the view.
The Westerkerk, 5 minutes from Hotel Pulitzer, was built in the style of the renaissance and in the form of a patriarchal cross. It was not the first protestant church built in Amsterdam, but it was the biggest for sure. The Westerkerk is open to the public between 11am and 3pm, six days a week (closed on Sundays).
Pay a visit to this historic church after touring the Anne Frank House. What moved us most was learning that during Anne's entire time in hiding, she could hear the church bells, but could never see the church. You will love this scenic area of Amsterdam...It is a post card coming to life!
