The gardens of the Abbey of Notre Dame are delightful, with views of the city of Nice or a seat to enjoy the tranquility, a lot of olive trees grown, annual jazz festivals, a visit to the Roman ruins foundation and a hot chocolate or coffee in an open air cafe.
This isn't the kind of cemetery that gives you the chills. It sits high above the city, offering unparalleled views of the sparkling coast and is filled with tasteful sculptures, headstones and mausoleums that are more works of art than resting places. A great place to bring a book or just enjoy a quiet moment away from the crowds at the Promenade.
Nice is small, and if you're staying in the city for more than a day, you may start searching for something else to add to your itinerary. While touring a cemetery doesn't usually come up first on "what to see" lists, this cemetery is actually quite beautiful and serene. Located at the top of a hill, the walk up to it may leave you a bit out of breath. Consider it exercise on vacation! There are a number of skillfully crafted statues and monuments among the graves that are artistic in their own right, and at times it can feel like you're visiting a museum. You'll also get a breathtaking view of Nice, so make sure to come on a clear, sunny day.
Tiny, packed with monuments. Worth poking your head in, but spend your real time in the gardens.
It is so old that you can't take pictures inside, it is the feeling that you have a touch of history
