The Dreamy Gubei Water TownGetting There - I took a trip with FCN/ Laowai, which provided me with bus transportation from Chaoyang Beijing to Gubei Water Town Attractions - The whole town is an attraction. At 7 pm they have musical fountain show, but this is no ordinary fountain show. So, if you come here, make sure you watch it. During the day, they have a variety of traditional music performances, opera, etc. Hotels - They have a resort and smaller hotels with varying level of service/amenities. I did not stay overnight my first time there, but I kinda regretted it. The town is surrounded by mountains, water and ancient style villages. This place has become more and more popular the recent years and we could feel that when walking around as there were a lot of people. The town is actually not that old but has been given characteristics as northern style architecture with history and culture of the late Qing dynasty. (1644-1911) the town is full of reconstructed buildings in courtyard style and hutong alleys. We were recommended to be there at sunset so we opted to leave Dongzhimen at noon time and returned with the buss at nine in the evening. There are plenty of options to stay over night and I would like to do that next time. Upon arrival you have to buy tickets to enter the gate and you will find signs for ticket office. In our entrance ticket we also got tickets for the Great Wall as well as the cable car to take you up. Food - As we were starving when we arrived we found a place to eat by the river. Chinese home cooking style at a small restaurant where the owner also ran a bed and breakfast. Local Liquor distillery - we had a quick look here, and it displays how they used to make their alcohol in the area. Yongshun dye house - this is a good spot to take pictures with the different colors of the cloths hanging around. You can learn about cloth printing and dyeing here and even make your own prints into t shirts. The last thing we did was taking the cable up to see the Great Wall at sunset. They run the cable during the evenings from 5:30 to until 22:00. We got a beautiful view and now I have seen a new part of the wall. How to get there: We simply took the bus from Dongzhimen. It was 49Rmb per person and we spent two hours to go there and one hour and 40 min to go back. This tourist bus from Dongzhimen leaves at 9:00, 12:00 and 15:30 and takes you all the way. Look for the bus: 古北水镇 Gubei Watertown. We paid after entering the bus. *They prefer cash but I think you may be able to pay with WeChat as wellIris-ka36

Watertown at Night!Gubei Water Town is located on the northeast side of Miyun County in Beijing. This water town is about 2 hours drive from Beijing city. It is known for its northern architectural design and the culture and history of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China historic period. Majority of the buildings in the town have been reconstructed using the traditional courtyard design. This Watertown has grown from just 5 ancient villages and a water source into a renowned holiday destination. There are lots of food and gorgeous little shops to visit. Night view is exceptional. A traditional Chinese New Year experienceSince arriving in China over three years ago, back in 2019; I was so excited to see the traditional celebrations during Chinese New year, try the local cuisine and understand the meaning of Chinese zodiacs. I arrived in China to see bustling streets holding Street food, music, large groups dancing, games of Mahjong on the street, to name a few. Unfortunately, less than 5 months later, just as the Chinese New year was beginning, the havoc of COVID-19 erupted. All events were cancelled, even with decorations just having been put up in the city's temples. Everyone put on masks, and stayed away from others. The whole city became quiet and eerie overnight as shops closed. No celebrating Chinese New year in 2019.. I waited each year, hoping for the Chinese New year to wake up the city again, but each year it stayed the same. Until 2023, where we leave the unpredictability of the tiger and welcome the balanced and calm new beginnings during the #yearofrabbit! At the first opportunity I traveled to Beijing's Gubei water town, an ancient style village. On arrival I was welcomed by a traditional lion and dragon dance at the entrance of the town. Throughout the day, traditional orchestra, puppet shows, dances, drums, and more dragon dances took place. Everyone smiling and grateful to be a part of this day. In the middle of the town there were a variety of stalls selling dumplings, noodles, Chinese New year memorabilia, DIY glasswork, kite making and more. It was a day to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in China.OohLaowai20

Venice in Beijing!!!Gubei Water Town is very cold in the winter…but so worth it!! ❄️☃️ We bundled up and went in the evening when the tourists were all leaving, and even though we had debated spending the full-day ticket price just to be there for the last few hours of the evening, it was so worth it. You can see in the photos just how much we “had the place to ourselves”! Magnificent Great Wall in Ancient WaterTownGUBEI WATERTOWN 古北水镇 plus bonus hike up SiMaTai entrance of the Great Wall of China 司马台长城! One of my most memorable day trip in Beijing,China. Book this Day-Trip Tour via Trip.com. Details were clear as to which Train Station and exit to meet up with the guide whom very swiftly helped us with the tickets and recommendation as to whether to tour the Watertown or Trek the Greatwall depending on your personal tempo! We chose to do a quick walk around the refurbished Watertown to catch a glimpse of its beauty in day light , and took the cable car to the mid point of Simatai Great Wall . This shorten our trek, yet allowed us to enjoy most parts in day light , and we didn’t need to rush to trek the Great Wall. The scenery was crazy! though the height do pose some adrenaline drive to some but it is all worth it! As the sun starts going down, we made our way down back to the Watertown. The Watertown we saw in daylight is now transformed ! with the lights all up it’s almost like it’s another city! Autumn in Gubei Water TownGetting There - We left a drizzly looking day in Beijing and arrived in Gubei just after lunch. There was a lot of traffic on the way and we were worried there would be lots of people here but we were pleasantly surprised! Walking around was easy and there was limited queuing for delicious food. Attractions - So many things to see from the beautiful brick work to the green leaves turning red and even a traditional kite shop. We loved watching the musical fountain and different shows along the way. Hotels - We stayed at Yuanzhu Xiaoshe Villa. We had a two bedroom apartment with a great little kitchen. We only stayed one night but the apartment was cosy. It was outside of the scenic area but super close. Food & Restaurants - Too many to mention!! We ate amazing duck and a ridiculous amount of street snacks! Check out the sweet potato corner store lady. They smoke them in enormous pots! Shopping - Just about everywhere you look there are things to be bought. From your usual magnets and postcards to clothing and headgear. Cost of 🎟 140 ¥#tripblazers #beijing #gubeiSmithHouse31

Gubei Water Town is a scenic resort that combines mountains, water and ancient villages. I went there few years ago and I loved this town.
In early October, I brought my family to the water town to see the red leaves. When I arrived in the water town on Saturday, it was already more than 11 noon. I found that there were too many tourists to see the red leaves. I drove a few laps in the parking lot to find a parking space. Booked the inn in the water town in advance, and the check-in speed was quite fast. After checking the ticket, I entered the water town and found that most of the red leaves were climbing tigers, attached to the building of the water town. If a girl comes here, it should be quite a film in Hanfu to take pictures. It is that there are too many tourists in the water town. It is quite difficult to find a place with few people to take pictures during the peak hours of noon and afternoon. If you are a tourist living in the water town, you can go out early the next morning and enjoy the moment of exclusive beauty.
