建筑学家、历史学家富豪Mercer修建了这座博物馆并收集了近代美国将要消失的各种各样的工具、生活用品作为展示。布置很特别,挺有意思的,使得整个建筑有种奇幻的感觉。
The Mercer Museum Crafts Museum, located opposite the art museum, is also a must-check attraction in Doylestown. At the end of the 19th century, Henry Chapman Mercer witnessed the huge impact of industrial production on the industry, so he was determined to preserve the handmade in the pre-industrial era. Mercer began collecting hand tools and other tools before industrialization. For this purpose, Mercer designed the six-storey museum specifically for these collections, which was built using concrete and completed in 1916. In addition to various hand tools, the museum also displays various furniture, carriages, stoves, gallows, antique fire trucks, whaling ships in the early United States. There is also a Spruce Library on the third floor. It contains a variety of historical research archives. 📌 Tour: ▪️ Regarding the concrete building of the museum, there is also an interesting story. The medieval armor collected by Aunt Mercer was burned by fire in the wooden building, so Mercer wanted his collection to be saved from the bad luck of the fire, so he decided to use concrete materials for architectural design. When the museum was completed, he also lit a bonfire on the roof to prove that the concrete material has a fire-resistant effect. The layout of the exhibits in the museum is also very similar to a large magic museum, unlike other museums. Most of the exhibits in the art museum are presented in hanging style, as well as various caravans and whaling ships. As Mercer ceramics, some tile samples are also displayed here
