The Obelisk is a landmark of Buenos Aires, located at the Republic Square in the intersection of Corrientes Avenue and July 9th Avenue. It was designed and built in 1936 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city of Buenos Aires. The monument is about 67.5 meters high and its base area is about 49 square meters. Since the people initially opposed the project, it was almost completely demolished in 1939, and now it has become an irreplaceable landmark in the city. The Obelisk stands out in the heart of Buenos Aires and serves as a reference marker for visitors from all over the world.
