A surprisingly good museum, rivaling and indeed surpassing the equivalent sections of natural history/science museums in Beijing or Shanghai. The natural mineral wealth of Hunan Province is on full display, with some of the largest and most impressive mineral specimens I have seen anywhere in the world. A decent amount of English signage too, with a better than average museum shop. One area that needs to be improved is the ease of booking tickets for non-Chinese citizens: it is too difficult without the in-person assistance of a Chinese citizen. This is a pity, because the museum itself is at an international level of quality.
