🏯Spanning the Han River, Guangji Bridge is the star landmark of the ancient city of Chaozhou. This bridge, one of the oldest movable bridges in Chinese history, is one of the four great ancient bridges of China, alongside the Luoyang Bridge in Quanzhou, Fujian, the Lugou Bridge in Beijing, and the Zhaozhou Bridge in Zhao County, Hebei.
🏯Guangji Bridge is also known as Xiangzi Bridge, which is the origin of the name of Xiangqiao District in Chaozhou. A local folk song goes: 'If you go to Guangdong but not Chaozhou, your trip is in vain; if you go to Chaozhou but not the bridge, it's a wasted journey.' That is to say, one must visit Chaozhou when in Guangdong, and one must visit Guangji Bridge when in Chaozhou.
🏯Guangji Bridge was originally built in the seventh year of the Qiandao era of the Song Dynasty (1171), initially as a pontoon bridge entirely connected by boats. Over time, 13 bridge piers were gradually constructed on the east and west banks. It is said that these thirteen piers and the bridge pavilions on top were built by successive prefects of Chaozhou, hence their different shapes and styles. Among the piers, a pontoon bridge made of shuttle boats is preserved, which can be disassembled to allow large ships to pass through the river.
🏯In 2007, Guangji Bridge underwent major repairs and was opened to the public, largely retaining the appearance of the Ming Dynasty, with some piers and stone beams still original. The bridge pavilions now feature displays of intangible cultural heritage crafts, including ceramics, embroidery, wood carving, hand-pulled pots, and straw paintings, among others.
🏯Watching the pontoon bridge being connected or disassembled by shuttle boats is a unique experience when visiting Guangji Bridge, with both the connecting and disassembling processes taking about half an hour.
📷Photography TIPS for Guangji Bridge:
✅A good angle to view the entire Guangji Bridge comes from the Guangji Gate Tower and Han Wen Gong Temple, although the view from Han Wen Gong Temple is a bit remote, and the lush ancient trees might block the view in summer.
Walking along both banks of the Han River, you can also capture the full view of Guangji Bridge.
✅The night view of Guangji Bridge is beautiful, with the bridge pavilions crystal clear and complemented by the warm light decorations of Guangji Gate Tower. As night falls, Guangji Bridge also has a light show.
Walking along the Linjiang Trail in the ancient city of Chaozhou, because it happened to be in the venue of the Spring Festival Gala, so I can only see it like this. One of the more interesting four ancient bridges can be seen by the way.
Guangji Bridge is located outside the east gate of the ancient city of Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, across the Han River, built in the Southern Song Dynasty Qiandao for seven years (1171), the length of 518 meters, is one of the four ancient bridges in China, and is now a national scenic spot. Guangji Bridge integrates beam bridges, floating bridges and arch bridges, making it the world's first open and closed bridge. The overall layout is the east bank bridge length 283.4 meters, the west bank bridge length 137.3 meters, and the middle 97.3 meters without a bridge, which is the Hanjiang navigation channel. At 10:00 a day, 18 shuttle boats are towed by barges to connect the two ends of the bridge, for tourists to buy tickets for two-way passage. At 17:30 every day, the connection is started to be dismantled again.
It is still worth going. It is said that it is one of the few ancient bridges in the country. I really admire the wisdom of ancient people. Parking is also convenient. It is smart parking. The air on the bridge is good. You can go one way or two ways. I think it is fun to go back and forth two ways. As long as you don’t have to go out of the ticket gate, There are many people on holidays. It is recommended to go to the experience of playing on non-holidays. The tickets are still cheap. After shopping, go to the ancient city to eat Chaoshan food. It is wonderful! [Cost-effective] [Fun] [View]
It was a worthwhile trip to speak clearly and meticulously
It's still very beautiful. I wanted to visit the bridge, but I went late. I couldn't buy a ticket to the bridge after five o'clock in the afternoon. I just looked outside the bridge, but it was still very beautiful and worth a visit. .
