Jialing River, a tributary of the upper Yangtze, originates from Daiwang Mountain in Feng County, Shaanxi, on the northern slopes of the Qinling Mountains, and is named after the Jialing Valley northeast of Feng County. The main stream flows through Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, and Chongqing, and it joins the Yangtze at Chaotianmen in Chongqing. Its main tributaries include: Badu River, Xihan River, Qu River, and Fu River. The total length is 1,345 km, the main stream basin area is approx. 39,200 square kilometers, and the total basin area is approx. 160,000 square kilometers. Among Yangtze tributaries, its length is second only to the Yalong River, and its discharge is second only to the Min River.
