"Unless you are very interested in Catalina’s plants or architecture, I don’t think it’s worth coming here, it’s too expensive. The view from the monument is very good. The gardens and monuments do not seem to be well maintained. There are several videos about Katarina at the entrance. But we feel that these videos are more about advertising than really providing information. There is a bus route coming from the city: USD 2 per way."

"This Hillside Garden is well worth visiting but not all on level ground. The home is a time capsule for Mid Century admirers and the gardens surrounding it a well planted hillside delight. You must arrange in advance your visit, and parking is not on site. I felt privileged to be allowed to view this memorial to Hortense Miller and grateful to the Volunteers who guide your tour."

"It is difficult to picture the building as a home, as the rooms have been re-purposed. Ole Hanson had 10 children and there were only 2 bedrooms. The bedrooms have been re-purposed, one as a library. But, don't let this deter you from a visit. The property has exhibits that tell of the history of Los Angeles, Venice (California), and San Clemente. There are exhibits with information on the surfing culture. I am a native Southern Californian and I learned things I never new. The exhibits are short and sweet, which prevents one from getting bored."

The knowledgeable staff is helpful and accommodating with suggestion for plants you can purchase. There is a plentiful selection of beautiful succulents and great ideas for trying your hand at creating your own arrangements. There are lots of planters and garden kitsch you can easily spend a couple of hours on your visit. I wish I had a place like this close to home."
