"The largest island of the Balearic Islands in Spain, Majorca is located in the western Mediterranean, surrounded by the Spanish mainland, the French mainland, the Italian island of Sardinia and the North African continent. It is a famous tourist and bird-watching destination, known as the "Mediterranean Paradise". The main tourists are from Britain, Germany, Ireland and Scandinavia, the Germans' favorite holiday island of Spain. The medieval China is famous, the ancient Roman, Phoenician and Carthage sites. The island has beautiful scenery, the most beautiful cliff coast in the west, the most beautiful beach in the east. The steep rocks and gentle highlands, the vast bay and endless beaches, and the terraces and beautiful fields. The Tramuntana Mountains, which stretches across the northern part of the island, were selected by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 2011 due to its unique cultural landscape. The population of the island is about 920,000, of which 420,000 live in Palma, the capital, followed by Manacor, Inca and Llucmajor. Between 50,000 and 80,000 tourists also live on the island, mainly speaking Catalan and Spanish, both official languages, and some Majorca residents also know English. The island is 3 in area, 640.11 square kilometers, Majorka is 75 kilometers north-south, 100 kilometers east-west, 70 kilometers long in the mountains of the northwest, with cliffs and rocky hills. The highest point of the island is Puig Major, but because it is a military restricted area, the adjacent Puig de Massanella is the highest peak to reach. The central part of the island stretches out from Parma to fertile plains. The island has a Mediterranean climate, with warm sunny summers and cool rainy winters, but the northern mountains are colder and occasionally snowy. The temperature is 8-15 degrees in January and 21-29 degrees in July. The average winter rainfall is about 5 days, with rainfall of about 50 millimeters. The rocky rugged coast of northwest Majorca is a world completely untouched by the tourists on the other side of the island. The Serra de Tramuntana Mountains are dominated by olive trees, pine forests and small villages of stone buildings. For self-drivers, the highlight was the frightening downhill road to the port town of Sa Calobra and a wonderful trip along the peninsula to Cape Cap Formentor. One of the most popular and spectacular short trips on the island was the train from Palma to Sóller. Sóller is the best place to start for hiking, and the nearby village of Fornalutx is said to be the most beautiful place in Majorca.
