What travelers say:

Very interesting, there are beautiful altars and statues (some of them original) built by the owners of Florence. The significance of this place in the late Middle Ages and the Florence Renaissance is not exaggerated. However, if you visit here on Monday, you can climb the stairs to see the statue up close. This is free and comes from the hard work of volunteers, all of whom are employees of the museum upstairs. Don't miss it.

Additional Information

Do not travel through Florence without stopping at Orsanmichele, the absolutely stunning chapel of the city's 14th century craft and trade guilds. All of the guilds sponsored the construction of statues of their patron saints, replicas of which stand around the church. (You can find the originals in the museum of Orsanmichele.) In an effort to outdo their competing guilds, the sponsors paid huge sums to commission work from the country's best sculptures and to secure the highest quality materials. These beautiful statues remain some of Italy's classic artistic achievements.
