The wreckage of B 52 was just wreckage, but it could be linked to other aspects, and I found the lake a moving monument to the airstrike war in North Vietnam at the time. I also found the school position facing the lake and heard the laughter of the children fit in. As other reviews have said, it would be challenging to find the place without Google Maps, but the walk to the lake is fun and so worth it.
