Cheap, nice, goodCheap, nice, good is a Cantonese saying that literally means good value for money. This could not be more true for the Star Ferry in Hong Kong; the cheapest way to cross the harbor to/from Central or Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui. For less than HKD3.5 you get to cross the world famous Victoria Harbor and are rewarded with stunning views of the cityscape. It's much slower than the MTR but it is a much more scenic and cheap to move about. Additionally it is a very historic experience as it's the oldest way to get across the Harbor. The lower deck is slightly cheaper but the upper deck is already inexpensive. There's air con on the upper deck in summer though. All in all, an experience not to miss!WB202155

Ironic Star Ferry of Hong KongA trip to HK is definitely not complete without taking the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, connecting Hong Kong island and Kowloon. The main route is between Central on Hong Kong island and Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon and vice versa. You can also take the ferry from Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui. This was the route I took as my hotel was located in Wan Chai. There are 12 ferries operating and I boarded the Meridian Star, which was built in 1958! In fact, Star Ferry has been in operation since 1888! The trip cost 5 hkd and payable via token (changed with money at the machine) or octopus card and it took 10 mins to cross the harbour. While there are other ways to cross the harbour these days, whether by tunnel or mtr, nothing beats the experience of crossing the harbour in the iconic Star Ferry! #familytrips2024notreve1

Father and Son Hong Kong Citywalk (I)Taking a break from the busy schedule, I decided to go on an impromptu trip to Hong Kong with my son. We took the Star Ferry across the sea, and Victoria Harbour remained the same. At the Peak Tram terminus, tourists lined up like a long dragon, so we went straight to Queen's Road. We took the Mid-levels Escalator, and at the end was Tai Kwun, where we specifically went to 'explore' the Victoria Prison. The playground was small, with plenty of alarm bells and street lights around, reminding people of the scenes where criminals are let out for exercise in Hong Kong films; there are many types of prison cells, we visited a single cell, which was quite narrow, with iron windows and doors, you can imagine how time drags on here! On the walls of the cell, there are displayed prisoners' calligraphy and painting 'works', which are very boring, to express their own depression. Relatively humane is that the prison has set up a psychological counseling room, encouraging them to communicate more with their relatives, which is commendable. It was noon, and my stomach began to protest. We went off the beaten path to find the roadside eateries loved by locals, the classic combination of rice and Hong Kong-style milk tea, the taste was authentic, very delicious. The 100-year-old Star Ferry is a long-standing sea transport to and from Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula in Victoria Harbour. Star Ferry is one of the must-check-in transportation vehicles in Hong Kong that are famous for Hong Kong Dingding Car and Taiping Mountain Peak Cable Car. There are three piers for the Star Ferry: Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry, Central Star Ferry, Wan Chai Star Ferry. The fare is very cheap, the Octopus is slippery to enter, and it is so convenient to go to and from Victoria Harbour! Everyone must come to punch in!

The Star Ferry is value for money, the scenery is fantastic, can oversee the whole CBD and sea, especially during the night where there is beautiful lightings on the building. Recommend the symphony of lights show, the ferry is very stable, you won’t feel the movement, those who have motion sickness need not worry. Brought my mum (69 yo) and son (5 yo), they totally enjoyed themselves.
This mode of travel maybe the best across the two sides of Hong Kong. It maybe slower than others but you get to take in the scenery of both sides of the city. It is especially nice at night and the ride is not bumpy. Highly recommend trying this one night in Hong Kong!
