Introduction

The Tongdao Yutou Ancient Dong Ethnicity Village is located in Yutou Village in the southwestern part of Tongdao Town. It was built during the reign of the Ming Emperor Hongwu and has a history of more than 600 years. The Ancient Dong Ethnicity Village is one of the best preserved folk architecture sites in China. It is known as a "real life museum" of Dong houses. The majority of buildings are "rod-style" buildings which are built on stilts. Their unique "ridge style" or "valley style" layout comes from the mountain ridge or valley form based style of construction which is unique to Dong villages. There are many buildings that were built before the mid-Qing era.
