What travelers say:

The Elephant Washing Pool is one of the eight temples in Mount Emei. It is said that the place where the Chinese Shushu Bodhisattva washed the elephants. If you climb up from the foot of the mountain, it will be more than halfway there, but there is still a very difficult Lianwang slope behind. So if you don’t have enough energy or time, you can stay overnight in the Xixiangchi, eat fast food, listen to monks chanting, and purify your soul.

Additional Information

The Xixiang Pool is surrounded by ethereal white clouds and towering ancient trees. The temple where the pool is located is actually just a small hut where the monks often burn tea and receive guests. During the reign of the Kangxi Emperor in the Qing Dynasty, the Master Xingneng expanded it into the "Tianhua Chanyuan" (Sky Flower Zen Academy) because of the hexagonal stone steps in the pool. According to legend, the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra once passed by here, allowing his steed, a white elephant, to bathe here, granting it the name "Bathing Elephant Pool“.
