What travelers say:

The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic church in Valletta, the capital of the island of Malta. It is one of Valletta's most famous churches and main tourist attractions, and it is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church was built in 1570 AD. It was originally called the Church of the Annunciation. It was changed to the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the 17th century. Rebuilt in 1852. This church was severely damaged during the Second World War. The current church was built from 1958 to 1981, and the interior carving has been carried out for 19 years. The 42-meter-high oval dome dominates the city’s skyline and Marsamxett Harbor. It is taller than the spire of the Anglican Church next to Valletta. The main attraction inside is a painting of the Virgin of Mount Carmel from the early 17th century. The red marble columns of the church are very eye-catching. Since the church is located on the narrow Old Theater Street, the entire church cannot be photographed from the outside. This church building is included in the National List of Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands.

    Impressive church

Our Lady of Mount Carmel can be seen from the coast of Sliema and must be visited. The dimensions are great as well as the cupola inside. Very well maintained.

    Welcome Retreat

Away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets this is a very well kept church. You see the dome from everywhere apart from the nearby streets but defiantly worth the small detour to find.
