"The St. Lawrence River is the outlet of the Great Lakes and the largest river in eastern North America. The St. Lawrence River flows out from the northeastern end of Lake Ontario and flows northeast into the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the Atlantic Ocean. It has a total length of 1,287 kilometers and a drainage area of approximately 300,000 square kilometers. From the mouth of the lake to Montreal, Canada is the upper reaches of the St. Lawrence River, about 300 kilometers long, with a large river bed, many rapids and rapids, and rich hydropower resources, but it is not good for navigation. Montreal to Quebec is the middle reaches of the St. Lawrence River, 256 kilometers long, with reduced slope and slower velocity. Below Quebec is the lower reaches of the Saint Lawrence River, which is more than 700 kilometers long and widened. The settlement at the mouth of the river forms a triangular bay with a width of 50 kilometers and a length of 400 kilometers. The St. Lawrence River Basin has abundant precipitation, coupled with the regulation of the five great lakes, and the water volume is relatively stable. The flow at the estuary is about 10,000 cubic meters per second, and the seasonal changes in water volume are small. The upper reaches of the St. Lawrence River began to be renovated in the 1950s. There are many artificial waterways, canals and ship locks, and sea vessels can reach the ports of the Great Lakes directly."
