Passing through the majestic Gate of Pele, the starting point of the ancient city is a small square. In the center of the square is a large circular fountain with sixteen mask carvings. It introduces spring water more than ten kilometers away into the city, from the Middle Ages to the present. The water supply system still in use. Nowadays, the water outlet is connected with an iron water pipe, and the spring water is so cool that it is a good place to prevent heatstroke and cool down in summer. 【view】
The Great Onofrio’s fountain is located in the ancient city of Dub. You can see it when you enter the pile gate. The fountain is not too big and has many water outlets. The sculptures at the water outlet are very cute and the water can be directly drunk.
The fountain of old Dubu, which had seen its old photographs in the War of Independence Memorial, stood before it again, touching the remains of its shell, feeling with emotion. The scenery is beautiful.
A series of fountains actually right inside the main gate. You can fill up your bottle with cool and crisp water or simple refresh yourself from the hot Dubrovnik summers. I was glad to have this nice oasis and the water tasted sweet and fresh! I'm guessing the pigeons also felt likewise as they were happy to stay under the fountains to get water too!

The Great Onofrio Fountain is located at the entrance of the Pele Gate in the old city. It was built in the 15th century. It was originally designed to draw water from the Dubrovacka River, 12 kilometers away, into the city to provide water for the city of Dubrovnik. Due to the severe damage in the 1667 earthquake, the water diversion function has been lost, and it is now only used as a heritage site for tourists to visit.
