For a few pounds you can climb to the top of the tower and enjoy the 360 degree view of Oxford without dead ends, the beautiful stripes and the southern city are the most amazing. The church porch, built in 4500 years, has spiral columns that are a major innovation in British architectural history
This is the main church of Oxford University and also a common place of worship for Oxford students. It is a Gothic building that can climb to the top of the bell tower and overlooks the Bodleian Library and All Souls College. It is the largest church in Oxford.
It is our main purpose to reach the top of the University Church of the Virgin Mary. It took about half an hour for the queue to reach our turn. When we stepped up the spiral staircase that only allowed one person to pass, we finally realized why there were not many visitors, but it took so long. Ascend to the top floor, and you can have a panoramic view of Oxford.
A very high church
It is the main church of Oxford University. It has a history of nearly a thousand years and its architecture is magnificent and gorgeous. This is a post-Gothic building, standing on the spire can enjoy the scenery of the entire Oxford. The opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00, and in July and August it is open until 18:00. Tickets cost 3 pounds. The steps to the top are very narrow, one has to walk sideways, and there is only one way up and down. The scenery of the tower of the University of Virgin Mary is uniquely beautiful. From the top to the top, it is like walking through a time and space tunnel to ancient times. The whole city is full of Gothic spires. Then that church is the brightest and warmest church I have ever seen.
At the end of the tour at Morton College in the afternoon, we went to the University Church of Notre Dame and Mary in Oxford near the High Street. I have walked through the door of this church many times, and this is the first time I have entered this church. Because this church is close to Oxford’s famous high street, we, like those who have been to Oxford, almost immediately saw the majestic appearance of this thousand-year-old church. It is said that this church was a shared church of various colleges in the early days, and all ceremonies, formal meetings, and examinations were held here. Later, the activities of each college became more and more independent, and the role of the church gradually weakened. The tall bell tower and stalwart appearance of this church are also one of the landmarks of the ancient city of Oxford. But walking inside the church, what you see is that the church is not magnificent. The tall bell tower can be ascended to look far and attract many tourists into the church. Although you need to buy a £4 ticket to climb the clock tower, there are still many tourists waiting in line. We have no desire to ascend, so we just look inside the church. Only by walking up to the second floor of the church and watching the panorama can we feel the magnificence of this church. In the church, some people are rehearsing the stage play, a few benches are simply arranged in the venue without a stage background, and a few contemporary young students are rehearsing vividly. The performance in the church is really a kind of live performance, and this is the first time I have seen this kind of internal representation of the church.
