Vlkolínec is the most well preserved and complete original folklore complex in Slovakia. Because of this uniqueness, it was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993. Vlkolínec is a very complete settlement in the heart of Slovakia, with the traditional characteristics of Central European villages. It is the most complete of these traditional wooden houses in the region, mostly in the mountains. The village consists of more than 45 wooden houses, each consisting of two or three rooms. An 18th century wooden bell tower and baroque chapel are also preserved. Houses 16 and 17 have been transformed into a folk museum with all the tools of daily life and work.
