Terrible. During our first Trenitalia train journey from Rome, we witnessed a Trenitalia ticket puncher berating an older American family who was so soft-spoken and polite. On our way back to Rome, it was we who were berated. Our return Trenitalia ticket puncher quickly realized our purchased tickets were incorrect as the arrival and departure stations were switched. I was mortified and got out my credit card to pay. The Trenitalia ticket puncher started talking loudly about our mistake, loud enough for the entire train to hear. We were the butt of his vitriol. I kept trying to pay, but he continued his tirade for the train, yelling that it would cost us 100 euros each plus the new fare. He even said he would call the police on us. I asked him to please do that, and it seemed I called his bluff. It was a bad experience that will keep us from visiting Italy in the future. P.S.—It was the second screen of the app that reversed the two stations by itself, but I should have triple-checked. And the on-train fine payment is only 60 euros each when paid on the train; the Trenitalia ticket puncher lied to us, saying we must pay 100 euros each.
