The explanations were excellent and very detailed. Whether it was the evolution of architectural styles or the history of the Manchu Qing Dynasty, the explanations were very thorough. It's the kind of talk where even those with little prior knowledge can find it interesting, and those already familiar with the Later Jin and early Qing periods can also gain new insights. We booked a group tour for 1-5 people, which was quite reasonably priced and I highly recommend it. It allowed for a more relaxed pace, and we could ask any questions we wanted (perfect for someone like me, haha).
Zhaoling Mausoleum isn't very large; a walk around takes about an hour. The scenery is even better in summer. We hired a guide, who was very responsible and told many stories, making it quite engaging. There are only burial mounds, no actual mausoleum.
Our tour guide, Hengxin, was very professional and enthusiastic. He even prepared a photo album-style PowerPoint presentation beforehand. He patiently and meticulously explained the historical knowledge, and the children learned a lot. Thumbs up!
1. Location and Transportation The Shenyang Palace Museum is located in Shenhe District, Shenyang City, with a superior geographical location and very convenient transportation. It is easy to get there whether by bus or by car. There are also multiple parking lots around, which provides great convenience for tourists. II. Historical Background and Architectural Features The Shenyang Palace was built in 1625 and was the palace of Nurhaci and Huang Taiji in the early Qing Dynasty. It is different from the grand scale and rigorous layout of the Forbidden City in Beijing, but it attracts countless tourists with its unique architectural style and profound historical heritage. When you enter the Forbidden City, the first thing that catches your eye is the quaint buildings with red walls, yellow tiles, carved beams and painted rafters, each of which reveals the royal dignity and elegance. Chongzheng Hall is one of the core buildings of the Shenyang Imperial Palace. It was once an important place for Emperor Taizong of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Taiji, to handle government affairs and receive envoys. The hall is luxuriously decorated with golden splendor, making people feel as if they have traveled back to that prosperous era. The Phoenix Tower is the highest point in the Forbidden City. Standing on the tower and looking out into the distance, you can take in the beautiful scenery of the entire Forbidden City, which is refreshing and pleasant. In addition to the buildings on the central axis, the Da Zheng Hall and Shi Wang Pavilion on the east road, and Wensui Pavilion on the west road are also attractions that cannot be missed. Each building has its own unique historical background and cultural connotation, which makes people feel constantly surprised and shocked during the tour. 3. Exhibitions and Cultural Activities The Shenyang Palace is not only a complex of buildings, but also a cultural heritage and exhibition center. Various exhibitions and cultural activities are held here regularly, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the Qing Dynasty. During the tour, I also met several enthusiastic tour guides who gave us detailed introductions to the history and architectural features of the Forbidden City, allowing us to have a more comprehensive understanding of this royal palace. 4. Services and Facilities The services and facilities of the Shenyang Palace Museum are also very complete. There are clear signs at the ticket office and entrance to facilitate tourists to buy tickets and enter the park. At the same time, there are multiple toilets and rest areas in the Forbidden City, providing great convenience for tourists. In addition, the Forbidden City also provides audio guide services, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the historical background of each building and cultural relic during their visit. Overall, the Shenyang Imperial Palace is a royal palace worth visiting. It not only has a unique architectural style and profound historical heritage, but also carries rich cultural connotations and exhibition activities. Here, you can travel through time and space and feel the dignity and elegance of the royal family; you can also gain an in-depth understanding of the history and culture of the Qing Dynasty and appreciate the treasures of the Chinese nation. If you come to Shenyang, don't miss this beautiful royal palace!
The Shenyang Palace is located at No. 171, Shenyang Road, Shenhe District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It was built in 1625, covering an area of more than 60,000 square meters and a construction area of about 9,000 square meters. It is one of the only two remaining royal palace complexes in China and the only royal complex outside the Great Wall. It is a national first-class museum and the wisdom creation and artistic crystallization of Chinese and foreign architectural art. The collections in the museum are also the result of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
Positive reviews: unique architecture, rich history, interesting cultural creations, high success rate of travel photography, especially suitable for family travel and history lovers. Note: During holidays (such as Spring Festival and May Day), it is recommended to arrive early or visit during off-peak hours; some areas (such as the Temple of Heaven) may be temporarily closed for repairs, so please check in advance The Shenyang Palace Museum is not only an architectural museum, but also a living history book. Whether it is the architectural aesthetics, cultural depth, or interactive experience, it is worth tourists' time to savor it. If you combine it with surrounding attractions (such as Zhang's Mansion and Zhongjie Commercial District), you can arrange a one-day tour to fully experience the fusion of Shenyang's history and modernity.
If you come to Shenyang for tourism and have not been to the Forbidden City, it can only mean two things: first, you have not done your homework for visiting Shenyang, and second, you don’t know anything about Shenyang. The Shenyang Palace, as one of the only two remaining royal palace complexes in China and the only royal complex outside the Great Wall, has the following characteristics. 1. Profound historical background The Shenyang Imperial Palace was built in 1625, with the foundation laid by Nurhaci and completed during the reign of Huang Taiji. It was later rebuilt and expanded many times during the reigns of Kangxi and Qianlong. It is one of the only two remaining palace complexes in China. In the early Qing Dynasty, this place was the political center and witnessed major historical events such as Huang Taiji's conquest of Korea and Mongolia and the founding of the Qing Dynasty. It has had a profound impact on China's historical process over the past 400 years and is a powerful witness to that turbulent period of history. 2. Unique architectural style It integrates the cultures of Manchu, Mongolian, Han and Tibetan ethnic groups. The Da Zheng Hall adopts the architectural form of a yurt, and eight Mongolian warriors on the roof pulling chains symbolize the unity of Manchuria and Mongolia; the Chong Zheng Hall's "front hall and rear bedroom" is the regulation of Central Plains Han culture, and the six square eaves columns in front of the hall are influenced by Tibetan architecture. At the same time, palace buildings mostly use yellow glazed tiles with green-edged roofs, the walls are mostly red, and the doors and windows have a large number of wood carvings and painted decorations, reflecting the Manchu aesthetic. They also adapt to the climate of Northeast China through designs such as thick walls, small windows, and kangs. 3. Many precious cultural relics The exhibition of cultural relics and treasures in the museum brings together various collections such as clothing, enamelware, calligraphy and painting, sculptures, lacquerware, porcelain, etc. The rich court art works reflect the superb production technology level during the Ming and Qing dynasties. 4. Rich cultural activities During certain festivals, the Shenyang Palace Museum will hold special cultural activities. For example, during the Spring Festival, during the “Dragon Hunting Tour”, tourists can look for dragons on ancient buildings, immerse themselves in the Qing Palace culture, and gain a unique cultural experience. 5. Symbolic significance of the city The Shenyang Palace shapes the lives of Shenyang people. Huang Taiji designated a commercial area on the north side of the imperial palace according to the "court in front and market in the back" pattern, forming Zhongjie, which is still an important commercial center in Shenyang. The entire Shenyang city spreads outward from the Shengjing Palace, and the criss-cross street of "eight gates and eight passes" is still the urban structure of the core area of Shenyang. Even though the main city extends to Hunan, the central axis where the Shenyang Palace is located also affects the layout of landmarks such as the central park, four museums and four buildings of the new city government.
"The Forbidden City in the snow may not refer to Beijing, but Shengjing. Perhaps it is because Huang Taiji's preference for Hailanzhu is unquestionable, so the Shenyang Forbidden City has more ease and confidence of mutual consent." Fang Qi once described the Forbidden City in winter like this❤️ There was no heavy snow❄️, but I still set foot on the road to Shenyang to look at the ancient monuments at the beginning of the year. Presumably, in the current flower season 🌹, the Shenyang Palace Museum, which is about to usher in midsummer, will also have a different kind of beauty✨ 🔽Tips: • Be sure to go early❗️ It is equivalent to "avoiding the peak" in disguise • It is best to visit in a fixed direction in order.
