Additional Information

Ta Prohm is located east of Angkor Wat. It was built by Khmer King Jayavarman VII in the year 1186, and was constructed in memory of his mother. Therefore, it's also called Mother Temple. It's made of large stones stacked together, and was once a temple filled with eminent monks, priests and dancers, possessing the dual function of a temple and an Ashram. With the passing of time, the growing tropical trees have invaded, the roots climbing all over the temple and penetrating into the building, causing the internal stone towers and walls to collapse. The original building has become a maze due to the intertwining of gravel and plants.
