Wachau Valley

The Waho area has many cultural landscapes, such as castles, monasteries and so on. This Viking cruise arranged for us to visit the monastery of Gertvik. This monastery is also a United Nations historical and cultural heritage. The monastery is large and has many fortifications. In the Middle Ages, they needed these defensive offensives to protect themselves. There was a building in the monastery that required a guide to open the door with a key to enter. The entrance was a wide staircase with beautiful wet murals on the ceiling above the stairs. On both sides of the walls are four sculptures of spring, summer, autumn and winter. The monastery also has a beautiful library and many treasured antiques.
