The Dragon Mother was a female leader of the southern Baiyue nationality during the Warring States Period. The Dragon Mother, who is said to be the mother of the descendants of the dragon was widely venerated. Wuzhou is the Dragon Mother’s hometown. In order to commemorate her, during the Song dynasty the temple was built on the banks of Guijiang River just north of the city. Nowadays, it has become one of the most famous tourist spots in Wuzhou and even in southeast Guangxi. The temple features a brilliant exterior. It was rebuilt several times during the reign of Wanli of the Ming dynasty and the reign of Kangxi and Yongzheng of the Qing dynasty and is well worth a visit.
