Jingye Temple (Southwest Gate)

Xi'an Jingye Temple is located halfway up the mountain, sitting north facing south, backing the mountain, the front is open and unobstructed, east of Qinghua Mountain, west of the Li River, Tibetan wind gathering, like a throne, Fengshui is excellent. The main temples of the monastery have the Temple of Heavenly Kings, the Palace of Daxiong, the Palace of Medicine, the Temple of Galan, the Three Temples and other buildings. Jingye Temple is one of the 142 key temples in the Han nationality area determined by the State Council. It is well-known and has a quiet environment. Although this place is remote, the temple is very good. As an ancient temple, it is very charming and unique. If you want to practice, you must go deep in the mountains. Why do you practice in a big city? But you must be prepared to climb the mountain when you come to this place. It is better to spend more than half a day. It is definitely 40 kilometers away from Xi'an. If you come in winter, you must pay attention to keeping warm and wear more clothes. It is still a bit cold when you go up the mountain.

The ancient temple at the foot of Qinling Mountain is definitely worth a visit! Parking is not very convenient. There is a very small parking lot at the foot of the mountain past Jingye Temple. We were lucky when we went there, and there was only the last parking space left. You need to climb up the mountain. It is not high, but the stone stairs are irregular, which is quite demanding. It takes half an hour to reach the top (if you don’t wear the right shoes or have poor physical strength, it takes more time). The vegetation along the way is very good, so although it is hot in summer, the consumption is not great. You can also see many cliff carvings along the way, which adds to the fun of climbing. The ancient temple has no commercial flavor at all. You can take three incense sticks by yourself, and donate as you wish, which is in line with the nature of Buddhism. There are two cats in the temple (basically fed), but there are not many cats as rumored. Instead, the cat at the entrance at the bottom of the mountain is very cute. It especially likes to eat small cakes, and the children feed it a lot.

Climbing the mountain from the gate of Jingye Temple, the scenery along the way is beautiful, and the Zen state is reflected everywhere. The way up the mountain is still easy to walk. The step road has a gentle slope. It basically takes half an hour to reach this thousand-year-old temple. The Jingye Temple, shaded by blue bricks and gray tiles and green trees, is still simple and quaint. The incense from the tripod furnace is gently curling, and the monks chanting scriptures are sitting cross-legged in meditation. Everything is so peaceful. Staying quietly for a while, the heart also calms down. There are many steles, couplets, and plaques in the temple, all of which are very profound. Among them are the handwriting of Mr. Zhao Puchu, "Yi Wushang Jue", "Lin Zong Zuting", and the three-character gold-painted plaque of "Jingye Temple" is said to be written by Mr. Nan Huaijin. The font is full and the brushwork is vigorous, which is worth savoring.

Jingye Temple is located in Fengyu, Qinling Mountains, Chang'an District, Xi'an City. It is the ancestral temple of Vinaya School, one of the "Eight Buddhist Schools", and has a very long history.
