based on 594 reviewsIn autumn, the Xi'an Museum is ablaze with red persimmons and golden ginkgo leaves, creating a unique and photogenic atmosphere. Of course, the cultural relics in the Xi'an Museum are also well worth seeing, such as the tricolor flying horse, the Qin jade cup, and the interlocking cloud and thunder pattern cauldron... Each artifact has a different story and historical culture.
Xi'an Museum is a modern comprehensive museum built around the historic site of the Tang Dynasty's Jianfu Temple and its iconic Small Wild Goose Pagoda, integrating cultural relic preservation, academic research, exhibition display, public education, and garden leisure. Its core area occupies the original site of the royal Jianfu Temple, with the remarkably preserved Small Wild Goose Pagoda serving as both the museum's distinctive landmark and spiritual center. The temple ruins and pagoda not only form the foundation of Xi'an Museum but also serve as its key outdoor historical exhibition area and visitor highlight. The museum's main building stands north of the ancient temple ruins, creating an organic fusion of three elements (temple ruins, pagoda, and modern museum architecture) that together form a unique cultural space blending "museum, pagoda, temple, and garden." This harmonious integration vividly presents Xi'an's historical continuity from ancient times to the present.
Xi'an Museum officially opened to the public on May 18, 2007. It was established to comprehensively showcase the glorious history and brilliant culture of Xi'an (ancient Chang'an) as the capital of thirteen dynasties, filling the previous gap of a comprehensive museum dedicated to Xi'an's urban history.
Collection highlights: The museum houses approximately 130,000 precious cultural relics from various historical periods of Xi'an, including over 10,000 nationally classified Grade III or above artifacts. The collection spans from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties, with particular emphasis on artifacts from the prosperous eras of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. These include bronzeware, jadeware, gold and silverware, ceramics, murals, stone steles and epitaphs, as well as Buddhist statues, systematically reflecting the political, economic, cultural, social life, and foreign exchanges of the ancient capital Chang'an.
Main exhibition: The permanent exhibition "Ancient Capital Xi'an" traces the city's development through history, showcasing Xi'an's evolution and achievements as both an imperial capital (Zhou Dynasty's Fenghao, Qin Dynasty's Xianyang, Han Dynasty's Chang'an, and Sui-Tang Dynasty's Chang'an) and a regional administrative center (Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties). Using precious artifacts, models, diagrams, and multimedia displays, the exhibition presents this journey in chronological stages.
Unique setting: The museum's standout feature is its environment. Visitors can not only explore modern exhibition halls but also stroll through the expansive heritage park, which includes the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the ancient architectural complex of Jianfu Temple (featuring structures like the Ming Dynasty Bell Tower with its Jin Dynasty ancient bell), the ancient stone sculpture art exhibition area, and garden views. Here, they can immerse themselves in the charm of the ancient capital's thousand-year history. The view of "Morning Bell at the Wild Goose Pagoda" is particularly renowned.
World Heritage Site: As one of the key heritage sites of the "Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor" UNESCO World Heritage, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and its surrounding historic area of Jianfu Temple represent a significant aspect of Xi'an Museum's cultural value.
Functional positioning: The museum serves not only as an important center for cultural relic collection, research, and exhibition, but also as an urban cultural park where citizens can relax and immerse themselves in history and culture. It plays a significant role in social education and cultural exchange.

The hotel is easy to find, right next to Wuyue Plaza. It's quite new. I booked a family room, which was spacious and gave me a good night's sleep. The breakfast was a little simple, though; a little more variety would have been appreciated. Overall, it was quite good.
I thought they were Ctrip's tour guides, looking for flags at the visitor center, but they turned out to be official museum staff. The Xi'an Museum and the Shaanxi History Museum have a lot of overlap, and I visited both venues. They saw the same things, like gold cakes, golden dragons, and terracotta figurines buried with Zhu Yuanzhang's fourth-generation grandson. I felt the explanations here were more detailed. I especially enjoyed Professor Li's introduction to the current value of various cultural relics; it was very unique.

Xi'an Museum and Small Wild Goose Pagoda are scenic spots together, integrating historical culture and natural scenery. It is a stop not to be missed in Xi'an. ⛰️How to play the scenic spot: Remember to plan your itinerary in advance and book tickets. After entering the scenic area, you can go straight to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. This ancient pagoda has a beautiful shape and has survived many earthquakes. It is an architectural miracle. Stroll around the tower and feel its simplicity and solemnity. The courtyard under the tower is shaded by trees, quiet and pleasant, which can quickly calm you down from the hustle and bustle of the city. After visiting the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the Xi'an Museum is nearby. The museum consists of the museum, the ancient building complex of Jianfu Temple and the garden landscape. The collections in the museum are rich and diverse, from ancient times to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and cultural relics from all dynasties are displayed here, especially the bronzes of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, pottery figurines of all dynasties, and gold and silver wares of the Tang Dynasty, which are breathtaking. It is recommended to focus on watching national treasures such as the "Three-Colored Flying Horse", which vividly show the superb skills of ancient craftsmen and the social outlook at that time. There are also many traditional garden landscapes in the scenic area, with pavilions, towers, rockery and pools complementing each other. After visiting, you can take a break here and feel the beauty of ancient gardens. 🍜 Food recommendation: After the tour, there are many special snack shops around the scenic area. You may want to try Xi'an delicacies such as mutton soup steamed buns and roujiamo to put a perfect end to this tour. The Chang'an food stalls opposite almost cover most of the Xi'an delicacies, and there are interactive performances to enjoy! 📌 Intimate TIPS: When visiting, it is recommended to rent explanation equipment or participate in volunteer guided tours to gain a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural connotations behind the cultural relics.
"Sister, your lipstick is so beautiful, what color is it?" "Sister, you are too thin, you should eat more~" They are so cute! Such beautiful Tang Dynasty ladies figurines, really, absolutely amazing! You must come to Xi'an Museum to see them! There are also exquisite gold and silver jewelry, which reminds me of Du Fu's "Beautiful Lady" The weather is fresh on March 3rd, and there are many beauties by the water in Chang'an. The appearance is elegant and the intention is far-reaching, and the skin is delicate and the bones are even. The embroidered silk clothes shine in late spring, and the golden peacock and silver unicorn are frowned. What is on the head? The green leaves hang down the lips. What can be seen behind? The waist is pressed by pearls and the body is stable. Looking at the flowers in the mirror, the flowers and faces are reflected. The flowers are scattered on the ground and no one collects them, and the green and golden sparrows scratch their heads with jade. They are the great beauties of the Tang Dynasty! There are also exquisite Qin Dynasty jade high-footed cups (unexplored from the Afang Palace!) Golden cute little animals (and gold cakes) Not to mention the blue-clothed boy riding a three-color flying horse! (He looks so cute, but he is actually a Hu boy...) It's really a spring breeze, and I can see all the flowers in Chang'an in one day!
In addition to the tiles with the words "Changle", "Weiyang" and "Chang'an", the Xi'an Museum also has tiles with the words "Yanshou Changxiangsi". Five hundred years before the poet Li Bai, people in the Han Dynasty had already been thinking about Chang'an. Changxiangsi First Changxiangsi, in Chang'an. The weaving weaves cry in the autumn, and the light frost makes the mat cold. The solitary lamp is dim and I am thinking about it. I roll up the curtain and sigh at the moon in the sky. The beauty is like a flower across the clouds. There is the high sky of Qingming above, There are the waves of Lushui below. The sky is long and the road is far, and the soul is flying in pain. It is difficult for the soul to reach the pass. Longing for you, it breaks my heart. Second The sun is about to end and the flowers are covered with smoke, The moon is bright and white, and I am worried and sleepless. The Zhao harp just stopped the phoenix column, The Shu qin wants to play the mandarin duck strings. This song has meaning but no one to pass it on, I wish to send it to Yanran with the spring breeze. I miss you so much that I miss you across the blue sky. The eyes that were once full of waves, Now they are like a fountain of tears. If you don’t believe that I am heartbroken, I will come back and look at you in front of the mirror. Third, When the beauty was here, the room was full of flowers, After the beauty left, the bed was left with flowers. The embroidered quilt was rolled up in the bed and I didn’t sleep, I can still smell the fragrance for three years. The fragrance never fades, but the person never comes. The yellow leaves fall in longing, and the white dew wets the moss. There are also Tang Dynasty handprint bricks, gilded door knockers holding rings, and various vivid pottery figurines... There are little people lying on the ground (are you tired from visiting the museum [Sob][Sob][Sob]), little people taking a bath (it looks like two children bathing each other), little people eating cakes, little people with swaddling clothes...When I was too tired to walk, I saw the pottery figurines resting on camels, and I really wish I could rest like this! (Make a bathtub/camel/swaddling clothes for checking in!) Those Tang Dynasty ladies figurines are particularly beautiful! The ancient capital of 13 dynasties, the history of Chang'an/Xi'an in all dynasties There are not many people on weekdays, but there are still many people on holidays! The layout of the exhibition hall is very confusing. You must first check what major cultural relics are in each exhibition hall, otherwise you may easily miss them... Xi'an Museum + Small Wild Goose Pagoda is really worth it!
Xi'an Museum Town Courtyard treasures they are really cute! Super cute! Invincible cute! The Tang Dynasty daughter-in-law 1,400 years ago! Fat! Mengmeng! They either smile, or reflect, do not apply fat powder, face the sky, cross time and space, in the crowds coming and going, waiting to meet you!
