Yichun Gulou

Zhangzhou Yilou, also known as Yichun Drum Tower, is located in the downtown area of Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, Gulou Road Pedestrian Street. The building was built in the second year of Nantang Bao (944), and in the 12 years of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1219), it was built to integrate the three functions of time measurement, punctuality and timing. The punctuality, time reporting and timing of the tower in Zhangzhou mainly uses "copper pot dripping" to punctuality, time reporting and timing. The time measured is only 20 seconds worse than the "Beijing time" on modern clocks and watches. The discovery of the tower in Zhangzhou has great historical significance and reference value for studying the history of ancient Chinese astronomy.

Built in the Southern Song Dynasty, Yichun Drum Tower is the earliest existing local observatory in the world, it is shining brightly in Chinese astronomy and even in the world astronomy history. It has been preserved for nearly a thousand years, and is located in the middle section of Gulou Road. The 12th year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1219) was organized by Zhangzhou Zhifu Qiangshu, and the Drum Tower was also used as a mansion to observe the sky and wait for the report.

The gold frame plaque of the Drum Tower hangs high, the black bottom gold word, and the buildings on both sides are slightly mottled under the brush of time. Follow the steps to the second floor of the Drum Tower, which is an exhibition hall. There are many ancient precision astronomical observation instruments outside, including ground motion instruments, sundials, zodiac longitudes and so on.
