There really aren't that much left by the Dutch from its time as a colonial power in Yogyakarta. However, they did build a fortress in the 1760s, to protect the resident Dutch rulers against potential cannon shots by the sultan. Benteng Vredeburg is still surrounded by a moat, adding to its character, and it is a brilliant place to retreat to from the intense Jl. Malioboro just in front of it.
A historical building located in the downtown Yogyakarta. In the colonial era, the building once served as fortress. As time passed, it serves as one of important museum that preserved the history of Indonesia, especially on the days of Independence struggle in and around Yogyakarta.
The museum is very large, often used for photo shoots as well as a venue for art exhibitions.
