Weizhou Island

Weizhou Island is beautiful and full of things to do! It has got something for adventure lovers, thrill seekers, and beach bodies!

It all depends on your attitude.. and even tho I had certain unpleasant moments, it is still a place I’d go again! Things you need to know if you are a foreigner: 1. Nobody will talk to you in English, if you find someone, you are lucky.2. This is a special time (Covid), so to buy the ferry tickets from Beihai, you need to have some proofs (could be Alipay payments, bills and so) that you stayed in one place for more than a month. The entrance to the island only can be bought on the island. 3. Because is an island that is aprox 50kms away from mainland, keep in mind that the weather conditions might affect the ferry trip (mine was cancelled coming back from the island, it changed all the plans) 4. If you think you can handle seafood for almost every meal, then, you are fine! I got food poisoning, so take medicine just in case. 5. Rent an ebike! if you wanna go around by yourself. I paid 80 元per day. In a lot of places you might have to pay a fee for parking the ebike. If you want to enjoy and relax, you can go to Wu cai 五彩滩and pay for trip tickets around 80 yuan and the take you to the places you’d like to go.. (it’s from the government so they won’t over charge you) something like hop on hop off style it’s more convenient for families. I don’t recommend to rent a car.6. The best place for swimming is Shiluokou 石螺口. 7. If you need to book a hotel in Beihai city, make sure they accept foreigners it’s better to call them and also to ask what proofs do you need to stay there.. in some places they asked me for a covid test in some others, only the proof of buying the ferry tickets. Staying there for 3 days is just fine!

We tried to get to Weizhou island for a day trip, there are limited ferries going there and back from thw mainland so we arrived at the ticket stand early. After waiting hours in line we were tokd that we could not get on a ferry as we are Foreign passport hokders, despite our resident permits. This was a sour experience dealing with unfriendly and unhelpfil staff.

Come to this tour, life is no longer regret, although the island of Weizhou is not big, can be very special, see the beach of volcanic stone, play yacht, and sailing ⛵️, although it is self-funded, but it is very happy, definitely worth it.
