Simala Shrine, The Hidden Gem of Cebu Island
Simala Shrine, also known as Monastery of the Holy Eucharist or Our Lady of Lindogon Shrine, is a beautiful place in Cebu, Philippines.
I would call Simala Shrine one of the hidden germs of Cebu Island because no tourists I met on the way were aware of it and none of the tourists had it on their itinerary.
You wouldn’t expect the construction such as Simala Shrine to exist in a small village in the middle of Cebu Island. Simala Shrine is popular with locals, but as a place to pray, not a tourist attraction.
To be honest, I also found it randomly, I was sitting in my hotel, looking at the map of Cebu Island, zooming in and out on the map and eventually I came across Simala Shrine, I looked at the photos and realized that this was the place I really wanted to visit!
Next morning I had breakfast and started on my journey to Simala Shrine. Cebu Island has busses circling the island and the guard at my hotel helped me to hop on one. I was enjoying the scenery and looking at the map in my phone so I don’t miss the bus stop.
Upon arrival, I realized it was still half an hour walk to Simala Shrine and it was really hot outside, but luckily there were tricycles for hire by the road, I told the driver where I needed to go and I was there in no time.
When I finally got to Simala Shrine, I couldn’t believe my eyes, the place was astonishing and magnificent. The building complex was a masterpiece of architecture residing in the rural area of Philippines.
There were many locals, most of them were standing in line to see the statue of Mary. I spent more than an hour wondering around and admiring architecture of Simala Shrine. I was all alone with no one to take my photo, it was truly a special experience to me. I love architecture, and being there made me feel extremely happy and special.
Enjoy your trip to the magnificent Simala Shrine 😊

The road to the shrine was paving when we went. We took 30 minutes to get to the shrine from the intersection. Overall it was worth it, there will be a security guard checking your bag before you enter the shrine, so if you are planning to enter the shrine, please bring as little luggage as possible. The shrine looks like a palace and is beautiful. There is a ramp to the shrine for easy wheelchair access.
The landscape of this place is also very beautiful, the whole temple looks a very meaningful feature, the architecture here is different from the traditional Filipino style, there are some characteristics of colonial countries Spain, come here to visit is also better like.
I am a person who likes to travel in a small group. I have to take some unusual roads wherever I go. I like to visit local popular attractions, and I don't even let the vegetable market go. This attraction is on a mountain, and when you walk along the path, you doubt your life, you will see the willows. . . And especially majestic. Worth visiting.
maganda sobra . dun kami nag simba. Kasama baby ko ! tsaka na paka holy Yung Lugar . always love to come back there.
The Simala Parish Church has now grown into a pilgrimage center as well receiving thousands of guests daily from all over the country. It's a 3-hour drive from Cebu City and you will be greeted by this huge and beautiful structure. It has also served as an attraction to the municipality of Sibonga.
Simala Parish Church - located in the town of Sibonga, in the southern part of Cebu is truly amazing! Every day, the church is full of devotees from across the country either wishing for their prayers to be fulfilled or giving thanks for all the prayers heard. Truly a beauty!
Going to the southern part of Cebu, you need to stop by Simala Parish also known as the Birhen of Lindogon Parish which looks like a kingdom in its own! You'll be left in awe once you reach the top and finish all yhe stations - main church, candle-light corner, adoration chapel, etc.
The home of the Virgin of Lindogon, the Simala Parish Church is the perfect go-to place for devout Catholics. A visit to the miraculous Virgin is also one of the to-do list when visiting Cebu. It now serves as both a religious place and a tourist attraction.
