Ulugbek Madrasah

Urubek Theological Seminary is a building in Registan that was built between 1417 and 1420 on the orders of Timur's grandson, Urubek. Given the construction of this building and the observatory, Samarkand became one of the most important medieval academic towns in the East in the first half of the 15th century. The seminary has an enclosed rectangular courtyard with a mosque at the back and four minarets at the four corners. The building's gate occupies two-thirds of the facade and has a deeply embedded arcade. This technique of building giant gates makes the whole building look extraordinarily tall and majestic. But at the same time, the building gives a sense of elegance and lightness.
