About Chengdu

Chengdu is a city on the rise, one you will want to visit again and again. Chengdu has a long and storied history. It has a unique cuisine with a huge number of hot and spicy dishes, as well as an enviously relaxed pace of life. Historic Jinli’s overpowering sense of enthralling antiquity, adorable giant pandas and avenues full of hotpot restaurants all call out to welcome visitors from near and far. On the outskirts of town, you can find quiet solace in peaceful Qingcheng Mountain or the bucolic ancient town of Anning. It is a vastly different side of Chengdu. Chengdu is also a fashionable city. The nightscape of Jiuyan (the Nine Arched) Bridge and the nearby Kuanzhai Alley truly make people feel the fast-paced pulse of the city.

Water Conservancy Project
The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is located along the main branch of the Lancang River, west of Dujiangyan City. It was constructed in the Qin dynasty around 256 BC by Li Bing, Prefecture Chief of Shu County, and his son. It is one of the few ancient Chinese water conservancy projects that has remained preserved and intact. The project consists of three primary works—Yuzui Diverting Embankment, the Feishayan Spillway, and the Baopingkou Water Inlet, and two secondary works which include the Baizhangdi (the thousand-feet dam) and Renzidi (the y-shaped dam). They divide the Yongjiang River into an outer and an inner branch, the former of which is used to divert floods and the latter for irrigation. This has allowed the Western Sichuan plateau to become "the land of abundance" as we now know it.

As early as in the Three Kingdoms, Chengdu Jinli has been a civilized part of the country. Today, it is the oldest street in the history of Xiqiao. Unlike other streets I have seen, this street is very different. The most impressive thing about the place is that there is a lot of food here. Many elements of the Three Kingdoms can be seen here. It is the Qingming Shanghe map of Chengdu.

Nowadays every city has its own unique city landmark. What is the first thing you think of in Chengdu? Jing Li? The wide and narrow alley? Tianfu Square? Yes, these are the signs of Chengdu. But what about the rest? The Chengdu Museum (New Hall), which debuted on June 11th, is a new landmark in Chengdu. It was designed by an architectural firm in Edinburgh, and is the largest city museum in the Southwest. In addition to going to the other well-known places, you can visit the Chengdu Museum (New Hall) to learn about the history and culture of Chengdu and Sichuan.

When I went to the Kuanzhai Alley in December, there was a light rain shower. The road was wet and slippery, and the old house and the fresh shop were raised. There was a strange feeling and a chic tone. It is said that many years ago, the Kuanzhai Alley had a well-preserved old street, with old trees, old yards, and you could experience the old city life. The Wide and Narrow alley holds the last remains of the old buildings in Chengdu. As early as the Warring States Period, Qin Huiwen built a small town in what is known as the Tianfu Square area today. When the war broke out in the late Ming Dynasty, the city was destroyed. When the Qing Emperor Kangxi was rebuilt and the Manchu Eight Flags and his family were stationed here. The Han people were forbidden to enter, and the flagmen were not allowed to go out without permission. The Mancheng Hutong, with its northern courtyard style, now features two wide and narrow alleys.

The most beautiful time I spent in the ginkgo was when I visited the Wenshu Monastery in Chengdu. When the wind blew through, the scenery was colourful and the ground seemed to be covered in gold. I wished that time would go slower so that I could enjoy the beautiful scenery for longer. Wenshu Monastery is the first of the four major forests in the upper and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China. The existing buildings are typical of the ancient style of the western Sichuan Plain. The all-wooden building and the six main halls are on the central axis of the mountain gate. It is magnificent. There is a treasure in the temple. You will get the chance to see the relic of Buddha and Master Xuan Zang’s top bone.
