Chennai

Chennai, previously known as Madras, is a city of the southern state of Tamilnadu in India. A major transport hub of the region, it is well linked to the rest of India by bus and train, making it a lesser known but effective jumping-off place for a tour of the subcontinent. A port of entry to India for years, it was also one of the earliest outposts of the British East India Company which established its toehold at Fort George in 1639. A busy, full city, Chennai’s restaurants serve rice based tail cuisine and performances include the native Bharatanatyam dance.
