Chicago's best theater house, in my opinion. Steppenwolf presents world-class theater programming year-round, with just the right ratio of classic pieces to contemporary works. The ensemble consists of accomplished actors who have won awards for their stage and screen roles, and some of the ensemble members have won Pulitzer prizes for their work as playwrights. There are four stages within the building, and the theater's set designers have created some breathtaking set pieces that completely transform the space from one play to the next. I always appreciate the talk back sessions offered at the end of select plays, when audience members get to engage the directors and crew members in dialogue about the piece they just saw.
Steppenwolf has several stages on which they present a variety of work as performed by their ensemble and returning former members.
Famous theater with quality productions. If you enjoy theater, don't miss this theater.
New York gets the most attention but Chicago has a thriving theater scene -- and some might say it beats New York for stage theater and comedy. The Steppenwolf is Chicago's premier location. If you have the time, it is well worth checking to see what is on stage when you are in town.
