The Van Gogh Nursing Home is located in this very romantic town in southern France. After Van Gogh cut off his ears, he lived here for a while. His mental condition was very bad at that time. But the most brilliant creative period of his life was also spent here. In this nursing home, he completed nearly 300 paintings. The garden on the first floor of the nursing home is very beautiful. Especially in summer, it is full of flowers of various colors. Next to it is a shop selling souvenirs, you can buy Van Gogh-related surroundings.
Once a hospital where van gogh cut his ear to escape sanatorium life, it is now an open place to visit, with shops, libraries and other famous paintings such as the restored garden of the yaer sanatorium.
The Van Gogh Nursing Home is not far from the Municipal Square and is open for free. The sanatorium is not big, just a garden, and it cannot go to the second floor. The garden is beautifully maintained, with bright yellow walls all around it looking lively.
Here, Van Gogh spent the time just after the break of friendship with Gauguin in 1988.
Here, Van Gogh created "The Garden in the Arles Hospital", which depicts the scene of the atrium garden of the hospital at that time.
At present, the only thing tourists can visit is the atrium garden enclosed by this two-story square building.
In a corner in front of the garden, a reproduction of this masterpiece is placed. Just like the scenery in the painting, the flowers in the courtyard are clumped in clusters, retaining the unique vitality under the southern French sunshine.
However, I still mind that it is too noisy because of tourists. Leaving here, set off for the next stop, continue to pursue Van Gogh's footsteps in Southern France.
The environment is very beautiful sanatorium, the scenery is good, living here should be good.
Provence is actually quite rural and the Van Gogh sanatorium is also quite deserted
Another major Van Gogh site in the city is the Van Gogh Nursing Home Espace Van Gogh. The lintel of the gate is engraved with "HOTEL DIEU" in Shanghai. This was the hospital where Van Gogh lived in Arles. Van Gogh cut off his left ear due to a mental disorder and was sent to this hospital for treatment. In April 1889, Van Gogh created the "Garden in the Arles Hospital". Now the hospital has long been relocated, and the atrium of the nursing home retains his original layout. Flowers bloom in summer, just like his paintings.
